I believe you two are overthinking it. Balud was taking a deep breath to calm himself because he was about to see his mother. Remember that he expected her to be really mad.

Then, next page, we see his surprise at being received in such a good mood instead.

@JuliusCV he would be holding his chest not the shoulder if that is the case.He is also arching too downward or low for what you are saying. In the fight back in the plantation he can only use one arm due to injuries.

Anyone would be surprise with that sight. Even that sight or mood is enough to convince him that his mom is not angry. He know her too long to be relieved with just that..

The action is also done in the village as he imediately done the action after he meet them. If it is due to meeting his mother it is far too early.
He will done it near the entrance of their estate.

On page 9 they are on a field then on page 10 , the first right panel shows the village . This shows that the location is changed from field/road to village .

On the page 11 before he done the action the leftmost corner show the village while they are talking. This state he is still in village as next page the show the picture of the estate so they change location. In this manga at least in this chapter, the location change is marked by loaction illustration.

I love how the father and son have that connection of being terrified/loved by the mom. I really enjoy seeing his mom in this, I agree with a lot of other people, that she pretty much makes this manga soo much better. I mean her absurd strength is cool and all, but just how she is in general.. I smile every time I see her in the chapters, because I know she's about to hear some crazy news about her son and make the messenger piss himself.

Edit: If there is a LN or WN I haven't had a chance to read it, nor have I scrolled down to check other comments. So... I'm saying he's going to have a younger sister. I'm not saying it because of the "FLAG" that was shown at the end of the chapter.. It's more like, because I want to see the MC get onto his mom(punish her similar to how he forbade her from training/riding horses/etc..)for trying to raise her the same way she raised him. I mean come on, seeing the character that everyone is afraid of or that can go berserk any second is getting "punished" by her son... Its pure gold.
