So this confirms the KING FKING LIED. There's LITERALLY NOTHING SAYING THE DEMON KING'S STONE CAN RETURN THEM

Tho ngl mc is crazy, it was kinda weak how he begged for his life but at the same time amazing that he did that including saving other and trying to save his classmates
My best guess is that a demon's stone can be made into some kind of powerful weapon/item, and the demon king's stone into even something greater.

From making an item or powering a spell that gives the King eternal life, to a magic powered weapon that can level entire cities.
Personally I am more particular to the weapon, that would explain why the King doesn't want information about the summoned heroes leaving the country, and potentially giving insights of his plans to other Kingdoms.

I wonder why some of y'all are against a negotiating-type demons when the king is clearly using the otherworlders as his pawns. this is not the first time the humans are the bad ones.
Think about it. The previous monster subjugation army who are not even a threat to the demon king got their numbers reduced by half, and the survivors got injured badly.
And this Sora is literally a summoned hero who has potential to get strong enough to be a threat for the demon king, and Ignis just let him go with simple curse?
Talk about double standard.

Fun fact about that curse: Ignis failed to mention it, but that curse serves as a link between Ignis and Sora, and Ignis can use that link to know where Sora is at all times, and even see through his eyes without Sora realizing.
People who read the light novel, do we have any information about the demon king?
I'll tell you this much: Yes, the demon king is a girl.

Y'know what? While I'm at it, I'll throw in a really big hint: The demon king's name is Eris.

thanks for the update

lol i'm not interested if he takes down the demon king or not (tho i wonder how many have actually been 'successful' in returning home, other than the stories where they go freely back and forth to begin with

I get folks saying this was 'forced', but this series isn't one with a primary action focus. The main character likes to walk, cook, and make friends. Having an action oriented resolution to this would have gone against the spirit of the series.

Further, Ignis made clear in the prior chapter, he only attacked the human caravan because they attacked him first.

While he seems like the type to delight in the suffering of others, he doesn't seem like the type to go out of his way to cause it. He also specified he only cared about killing the MC because of the possibility of him killing the Demon King, not out of some wanton want for murder and destruction. The author was laying the ground work to demonstrate Ignis was, in spite of appearances, a relatively reasonable demon. He also noted that the chances of the main character becoming a danger was low as it stood.

This moment felt less like it was intended to be a climactic showdown, but rather a world building moment to make us go, 'okay, Demons have their own code, probably more to them and their war with the human kingdom'.

Its relatively cliche, sure, but I feel it was overall done well. There was adequate set up and pay off in my opinion, and I'd have a lesser opinion if somehow our main character developed an ability that let them overcome this situation via combat.
Second this. I liked how this chapter showed us more of Ignis and the world. And I like that the resolution wasn't to win a fight when Sora is weaker, I felt this stayed in character for him.

I went back and checked just to be sure....but even if it ( the name ) didn't ring a bell, it was obvious....yet, I checked just to be sure :dogkek:

In this situation he realized he was too weak to take on Ignus in his current situation after fighting with the masked guy. In that situation it only made since to plead for his life. The bigger realization was to find that the king was lying to the other heroes. I mean that is a typical trope of Isekai themed manga. Never fully trust the one that summons you from your world. They do not care about you or what you want they only want you to kill their enemy and then they plan to kill you or leave you to die as a commoner (I mean they discarded a summoned hero as they didn't know anything about his unique skill).

Reading comprehension devil at it again in the comments, I really don't see how it's forced, I literally expected him to beg and say things like "I never had any intention to go after the demon king to begin with" like he just did, he even got a curse to make sure of it so really, no reason to kill them

Yeah... that was forced as fuck...
really? I thought that was exactly what I would do in that situation, I mean the demon seemed reasonable and the main character wanted to remove himself as a threat so he could survive. I actually saw this coming since the point the demon showed up and was rational. It seemed less like it was forced and more like it was almost completely obvious this would happen.
writer wrote himself into a corner and bullshitted his way out of it...
I don't think that is the case it was a bit foreshadowed and this is a way of fleshing out the motivations of the demons. If he wrote himself into a corner it wouldn't be as smooth as this. I am guessing he already had a plan well in advance that he used this as an important story element. Everything in this part was believable and seemed to flow just like one would expect should you think of the characters in the story as non-2d characters.
