I love the message that this arc is trying to say. Even though the MC is the Medicine God incarnate, he alone can't deal with a pandemic of this level. Research and disease control is a multidisciplinary science that needs not only physicians, but microbiologists, infectious disease specialists, and the like to ensure proper actions are found and taken. Quite timely.

I don't know why, but it's easy for me to feel happy for researchers who've invested in something seemingly useless only for it to pay off and bring in funding in a big way.

@Psychronia so long as a researcher is making headway I don't think any research into the sciences is useless. Epecially when it comes to chemistry and biology since those things have a lot more variables so its hard to know what could be related to what in some obscure way

@latissimusdomsi also teaching them that magic can't do everything and pharmacists without magic can be just as useful as those with

@Liquidxlax Ever heard of pseudoscience? There's more than enough "research" that falls under this category, which still gets funding because the people funding it cannot distinguish between actual science and pseudoscience. This is especially true for more complex topics.

"Useless" science isn't the same has pseudoscience.
In the scientific method you start with a hypothesis and see if it can resist the test of hypothesis
The pseudoscience start with "the truth" and tries to find a way to prove that
A scientific hypothesis can be wrong
A pseudoscience one can't
It's a shame that some people can't see the difference between the two

@criver Can you give some examples? Calling a lot of research pseudoscience is such a strong statement. Maybe youre trying to described a biased research.

This dude kinda explain it. While I did linked his video, I would take most of his words with a grain of salt. IMO some of his videos are pretty grounded and kinda interesting, but a huge chunk of his library is pretty much pseudoscience.

Pseudoscience doesn't have to start with the "truth", the broadest requirement is that you just misrepresent something as science. It's especially easy when the average person cannot distinguish because the topic is complex enough.

As far as examples go:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_topics_characterized_as_pseudoscience

Usually funding is received not by the best scientists, but simply by people that advertise their "ideas" the best. Basically everything wrong with project science in one sentence.

Just so you have an idea where this is coming from: I have seen the same thing happen both in my field - CS, and in my parents' fields - particle physics and cosmology (not to be confused with astrology).
