This has been done before, in a way. I think it's what @nroejb mentioned. One of the heroes in "Hero Union BBS" https://mangadex.org/title/12956/ is a Tokusatsu robot dog. Might be my favorite part of that unfortunately short-lived manga.

Oh, definitely. It seems like it would be incredibly charming.

Not necessarily for a super-long series (as seems to be described here), but a solid two or three volumes of super-robot/fantasy-princess bravery and camaraderie and maybe some romantic tension? Staying as BFFs would be fine, too... it could be quite refreshing, especially with the ye olde wide-eyed shounen thematics, as depicted here.

I presume the artist doesn't have that kind of spare time and energy—thus this shorthand version with the speculative world-building sandwiched between the art.

@Ichicora Same here. But reality is never nice to us and it would require a miracle for the author to at least attempt to take his drawings and expand them completely to manga-tier.
