Yeah, the whole "interspecies romance" and treating the relationship and the love in a romantic sense is bordering beastiality.
I thought this would simply be about the bond and appropriate love between different animals and humans.

As someone who went into this well aware it was gonna be romance (I am all for unusual romances so long as they pass the Harkness test... which most of these didn't), many of the ones that have been translated thus far would be cute if they weren't romantic relationships. The first one with the girl and the crow would have been adorable as an animal friendship, but as it was she and the crow couldn't really communicate and it was unclear whether they were on the same level of intelligence. And why were almost all the rest of Nagabe's about a fully mature animal and a literal human child?? The wolf and the dog girl would have been an adorable story of adoption and parenthood if it didn't go full Usagi Drop, and the little boy and the lion would have been an adorable friendship between outcasts if it wasn't unpleasantly framed as romance (since the lion is obviously an adult). I can't even trust that the relationship between the vulture and the little orphan girl was meant to be purely parental given the nature of this series and Nagabe's other works within it. (At least the girl and the vampire seemed to be age appropriate, since they were both young for their species, but it bothered me that rather than help him embrace his true self she carried on the lie he used to delude himself...) It's a shame, because Nagabe's art is so good, but between this volume and my disappointment with their oneshot manga EAT I think I won't be reading any more of their works.

The only one I liked in this whole volume was Cotton Magic, which was absolutely adorable and made me tear up. I wish that energy had been present in the rest of the stories...
