Except their relationship was effectively restarted, Mc will treat her like a classmate not a childhood friend or ex and it will be up to her to try and remake their relationship.

Idk, if she wasn't willing to tell you your true feelings as your girlfriend, she'll likely do the same as your 'friend', imo.

Maybe staying 'friends' is a common courtesy when in reality they'd distance from and ghost each other while they go about their own lives, seeing new people. It's a pretty bland, yet probably the best outcome that could be hoped for for both parties without getting each other's feelings too hurt. I dare say that's probably what MC here was going for, whether he's aware of it or not.

Ideally, however? No, he should have just cut her off entirely if he doesn't have any plans of getting on better terms with her. Don't even give her any hopes that they can get back together like she's obviously forcing herself into doing here. It just further proves how pathetic, selfish, and desperate she really is and why he's better off without her.
