@Nermie01 I can think of two reasons for the ghost girl stories.
1. It's not that there's a special appeal to ghosts, it's just on the checklist. They've done every other kind of weird girl . . . catgirls, dog girls, foxgirls, raccoon girls, snake girls, rokurokubi (that one's epic), demonesses, succubuses, angels, vampires, a girl who turns into godzilla, a tyrannosaurus girl (not to mention a girl tyrannosaurus), slime girls . . . so, how could they not do a few ghost girls?
2. More creepily, it occurs to me that what one has with a ghost girl is complete exclusivity. The girl is not going to have the option of going for anyone else. In a culture that's paranoid about purity (and I'm not sure here if I'm talking about Japan or manga otaku), there's nothing like a girl who's attached to your apartment, who most other guys can't even see, and who is even already dead (and probably a virgin at the time) to guarantee you have her all to yourself.
