The drop of effort in artstyle by around chapter 60-70 onwards, the story starting to get shonen-villain-meatgrindy by Deader Land arc, the way the series ended almost exactly like MHA: Vigilantes. Literally both the artist and the author did that Plankton's "I don't know, I didn't think I'd get this far" with this manga at least twice :kek:

Wanted to like this but just couldn't stand the angst of this series, probably would've liked it better if I was younger.

Just finished and the ending seems kinda of meh. No definitive end just here we are.

Not that great, not much to argue "for" or "against", I stopped reading 90% of it at ch58+, and I don't think I really missed anything, he just, keeps killing "bad guys", which usually have a tragic backstory

+I do think the "this feels good", given it follows their desire is pretty interesting, a power that follows your desire, you sort of become a "god" in your desire, able to act on it, to a higher degree. That's, honestly all I can praise this story though, his main romantic interest flip flops a couple times between hating and loving him, so it's hard to care for her, and the romance doesn't pull any heartstrings, it falls into the "okay, they're together... now what (what do couples do(Erm come on brain))", without any payoffs, I can't remember if they ever cuddled, cried in each other's arms, or reassured with hugs, most I can think is they had sex and kissed

-art dips (disgusting a lot of times, his gun looks gross)
-story doesn't go anywhere beyond initial premise, guy shoots bad guys (there's no mystery, there is power growth, but that's it)
-premise/"magic" is handwavy, maybe I missed the explanation of where the frogs or birds came from
-raper gets redemption (and rape is sexualised)(final rape target never gets back on screen, feels like her entire character was just to provide a "resolution" to the raper, gross)
-that one foreshadow was like way too on the nose (trying not to spoil, but what raper does in his final moments)
-romance is shallow, I get it can be hard to write, I think the main issue is there's no emotional tension nor reason for there to be any, there's no "I have to win them over" "do they still like me" "are they okay" "is checking in on them weird" "they're warm", etc, it's strange, the classmate romantic interest in "Gantz" felt way more endearing than anyone in this story, and she barely spoke, maybe it's a pity thing, she's the perfect example of "freeze" in "fight, flight, freeze", which is funny, endearing, (undignified), honest, and pitiful, I can't say that for any of the characters here, everyone is way too straight forward, which can be good as contrast, but everyone is the same, weird zealous cop partner he gets early on is a good example, I can see how he may be used for humour, as an unserious character, but nothing really feels serious, I think this is because there's no weight behind anything, no attempt to mitigate loss of lives
--"Ajin" ch19 is a great example of mitigating and tension, you see what characters think, one wants to hurt those in power who hurt him, not an innocent group, so he speaks up, if they don't listen, he gives up as he owes them nothing, as he's been "taken" from before, another's hands are shaking from the tension, all while everyone's "waiting" for him to "make his move", I don't know if it lines up, but pg27 with the shadow on the building, such a great panel, just amazing, everyone wants to mitigate, except the one making moves
--Anyway point being, there's no romantic redeeming qualities, there are no liars to contrast honesty, no fear to show bravery, no pitiful moments, no care for the loss of lives, etc, in "Gantz" his care for her is brought up, "Is she that dear to you?" "No... not really" (ch105 official), and he's honest, it's sort of funny, no she's not, but he spites the enemy and pities her, so it's more of a combination of feelings than one direct one, it's great, I feel also there's the dynamic of dignity, freezing isn't dignified, but it is honest (so it is in a way, dignified, as honesty is), her being embarrassed could've been a detail but whatever (a "I love you just the same" moment), she feels safe with him, and as does he, that's a dynamic itself, dignity, safety, none of these dynamics ever came to mind with "Jagan" (there's other dynamics too), I mean she straight up says I want your genes, Hello?, that's the confession? maybe some buildup or reasoning, the "shock" of her confession isn't shocking when everyone's being/been so weird
-There's many times I thought "Nah, it won't resolve here cause then there'd be no conflict", but it did resolve, and then, there was no conflict, until some new conflict came up to then be solved right away, I'm not a fan of these short fights with no consequence, it's a lot of fluff, no attachment
-does author's male to female genderswap

3/10 for me, I did complete it, it's worth skimming, it's not worth lingering over majority of dialogues, I could write more, but I realised I'm just talking about story points which could've existed
