Orange/Emaqi WILL burn beneath the weight of its hubris. Japanese web design is stuck in the 2010s, but their AI is supposed to translate manga at a pro level, when no one else can? Get real. The fact that these companies have human proofreaders is an admission that AI isn't capable of the bare minimum of what we should expect of a pro translation, to say nothing of doing it without AI tone hallucinations or non-binary errors.

Orange is using the allure of AI to get more VC funding, and to pitch their mechanical turk sloplation service. Can you imagine an American company with questionable JSL selling poorly translated en>jp comics to Japan? They'd get laughed out of the pacific ocean. If having experience speaking and translating languages wasn't important for pro level work, companies wouldn't have been hiring people with that experience pre-GPT, they would've been giving the unpaid intern a dictionary.

And... the AI is basically just a hallucinating dictionary! Algorithmically sorted based on the association different words have with each other, with a beefed up version of the next word text predictor on your phone. It can't think, feel or remember anything. It has no intelligence or consciousness. It does not speak English, or Japanese, to the LLM, all words are number tokens, it's all numbers no intellect.

Manga localizing companies aside from the Orange type VC AI companies, are mostly simulpubs with consistently low quality and pervasive errors i.e. mangaplus. Crunchyroll's AI captions for english dubs suck, they can't even do english audio, yet they may soon be having AI do subtitle translation. If they try it, it's gonna be really funny. Amazon's got terrible new AI dubs of some anime, bc (afaik) they're too cheap to pay for the official english dubs. Notice how the AI never makes the translation better, it's just done for cost savings? HMMMMM...

If emaqi succeeds at all as a platform, it will be insofar as it offers pre-existing translations from multiple publications. Instead of having to download 10 different mobile app only services, you can get it on just a single mobile app only service! Yay! Crunchyroll manga is gonna KILL orange, I'd love to see that, even though it's crunchyroll.

Oh shit guys, the "translators" that uses AI/MTL finally got competition

Are they gonna put their "translation" behind a paywall as well?

Transalted by AI proofread by AI. That would be masterpiece without a doubdt. /nod /nod
If they publish discussions among the AI (translated + commentary of the proofreading) it can be hilarious, same for mangaka interviews.
