@GrimGriefer These "web-novelists" are basically armchair authors that don't really bother to understand anything more than the most surface aesthetic of what a feudal society means.
The nobles are benevolent and charitable when the plot demands it, and corrupt and greedy when it demands otherwise. There's no nuance or reason to it.

To adorn oneself with borrowed plumes.

Both sister and brother, honestly he should just take Rain and Brauer and live his own life, it's not like the siblings are grateful.

Holy fuck this comment section.

Saiga is asking why doesn't the kingdom retaliate, read the whole sentence. It's not just "duh, I war good!"

Pg 16 also explains why Arcana doesn't just take the land; they need soldiers to occupy huge areas and they need a supply line to those soldiers, AND THEN they'd need soldiers to guard the supply lines. Simply put, Arcana's royal family doesn't have the manpower, and the author doesn't go into it, but i'm not sure the costs of raising an armed forced to occupy and feed the occupation forces will be covered by whatever resources they can get out of that land.

I would like to go ahead and point out that while the reasons for stopping the war are somewhat thought out, they aren't the real issue if this were to occur in real life. The real issue is the fact that the New Domino empire or w/e is revolutionary. If you allow a revolutionary state to go unchecked, and get away with killing its royal family and whatnot it sets a horrible precedent. It causes the general tendency of inspiring revolutionary frevor among the citizens of surrounding states and the revolutionaries of one state tend to wish to spread the revolution. They also tend to become extremely powerful. US, France, and USSR come to mind. So the real issue here is that you need to nip this little idea of "liberty" in the bud, since your people are just as likely to follow suit, to fight in the name of equality, since feudal systems of government arent exactly the most kind to the common laborer.

The sudden commentary on American (and, by contrast, Japanese) foreign policy really hit home for this former Army girl....

I don’t understand, are they trying to occupy Domino land, or not?

That noble guy implies that they don’t want to just destroy the enemy troops but move into Domino territory, but then he implies that doing so is less than desirable due the logistical downsides of it
