I can think of 2 scenarios of what might happen next:
1) the 3 girls will defend Sumika (though I dunno what use this will be as the issue is already part of the past, but I guess Sumika will be moved realizing that she has true friends who will protect her from that past)
2) Kotaro himself will somehow get to intervene on this after somehow overhearing some of it (or seeing Sumika depressed) and become closer with Sumika by encouraging her in her goal of becoming a better person

I honestly feel like I'm going insane with how the author recycles the exact same trope 500 times in every single one of their series. Every single chapter is just a random stranger/classmate/bully coming out of nowhere and saying something mean or gossipy and then backing off after getting talked down to. Like it has to be almost 90% of all conflict scenarios at this point.
