They had the perfect opportunity to find out how they could make Kotarou fall for each of them, but the three stooges let their impure desires run rampant.
Great job girls. You blew it.

JP are so obsessed with domination/submission. Screwy, hierarchically obsessed culture. 🙄
  • Kotaru goes in intending to hypnotize (dominate) them...
  • But then gets hypnotized (dominated) himself by his own attempt. (Weak and idiotic.)
  • Then the girls get into a brawl? over who gets to dominate him.
  • But they're also totally in love with him (i.e. are dominated by him.)
  • Then it ends with 2v1 bondage situation.
  • And we don't know what else they did while he was out.

You may be reading a bit too much into it

Nope. But it's a general observation on Japanese vs Western culture. JP culture is fundamentally hierarchical. It's absolutely embedded in behavior and in language. It's fundamental in language. E.g. "Sempai" vs "Kohai". E.g. "Oneesan" vs "Imouto" (rather than just saying "sister").

This manga is just another example. The whole thing is fundamentally structured around a (humorous) struggle for supremacy (hence "battle" in every chapter title). (Though a big part of what makes the manga interesting is how much the top/bottom positions get flipped around.)

I like JP culture, but there are times when I just have to shake my head at it.

Keep in mind, everyone. Out of the three here, Shigure is the only one who's ever touched herself.
