Amazing how a single WN had the adults be competent and it feels like a marked shift in the entire "school age" category of manga.

It's the baseline you'd expect in any functioning society, but at least in terms of the fiction (and from what little I understand, in some respects the reality, sadly), even the faculty being portrayed like this is extraordinary and worthy of mention at every turn.
i dunno man, reality often can't compare to fiction. But in extreme cases, reality ends up imitating fiction.
But it is important to note a few things for this to even have a chance:
1. A well-funded public school.
2. A Compassionate AND competent teacher who actually has time in what appears to be a class of 30+ students (without going full GTO).
3. School management who did not put reputation and student revenue ahead of a working class student.

Too often these days it is simply collecting another paycheck and one protecting oneself. This manga/story is definitely a feel-good read, but I simply can't recall in my 30+ years of life where all the good things coming together to make justice possible for the little guy.
One should always Temper expectations IRL and remember this is a feel-good read and not a recipe to apply savior complex/hero syndrome to oneself.

Wow, I never expected to get Ai being smug. She's just too cute!

And damn, the teachers are the best. I wish more teacher patrolled the shoe rack area like that to prevent bullying. (Although it will also prevent love letters to go around lol).

So the chapters are being split now, huh? That's fine. Usually I like to wait until a chapter is complete, but I don't care when it comes to this one. Chapter 1 may have been a struggle, but every chapter since has been so good I want to see what happens ASAP. And yes, I read the spoilers in the comments of chapter 1. That's how I managed to wait for chapter 2 and got hooked. :)

I hate to be the odd one out, but looking at the spoilers, which got a question in me, but will Miyuki have some sort of redemption arc? Does she have a redemption arc in the webnovel?

I know most people in the comments dislike her, but....

I have a feeling, since the webnovel isn't over yet, that the author wants to give Miyuki a redemption arc, which I don't know how that's going to work.

it’s a wholesome chapter, even AI gives the MC support so they can stand back up. Takayanagi-sensei is totally chad, he cares a lot and even apologizes to MC for failing to protect them during the bullying (teachers like him are really hard to find in other manga and in real life).
but you’ll be even more satisfied if you read the Spoiler Summary for Light Novel Volume 3, this meme will sum up everything that happens in LN Vol. 3 (i want to say it's similar to a scene from Crows Zero: Suzuran vs. Housen, but MC doesn't do anything related to revenge :haa: )

WARNING : Please Don't Click if you Hate Spoiler

Point Summary :

The Kondo–Miyuki problem is finally over. Kondo was arrested by the police for assault, resisting arrest, and other charges, and his dad was arrested too, accused of abusing his position, threatening civilians, and corruption.
Miyuki confessed everything to the whole class, she admitted the accusations against Eiji were lies she made after being caught cheating with Kondo. After her confession, she was labeled a liar and a slut, and she lost all her friends right away. She almost killed herself, but Ai stopped her, because Ai didn't want Eiji to be hurt again because of Miyuki.
Ai also told Eiji a secret she’d been keeping, she’s actually from a powerful family (Ichijou is her mom’s name, her real family name is Ugaki).
The only big problem left is the literature club president, Tachibana, but that's basically waiting to be dealt with because Takayanagi-sensei already has proof the lit club was involved in bullying Eiji. Chats between Tachibana and Kondo that Tachibana thought were deleted are being recovered since Kondo's phone was seized.
The last thing to sort out is Ai's family situation.

Heroine: Ichijou Ai (REAL NAME : Ugaki Ai)

Unlocked Characters =

Bitch 2: Ikenobe Eri

Mitsui-sensei (top teacher 2)

Other teachers

Endou’s new heroine: Doumoto Yumi

MC friend 2: Imai Satoshi

Soccer club captain: Watanabe

Literature club member: Hayashi

Literature club president: Tachibana

Provincial assembly chair: Yamada

Ruling party secretary-general: Ugaki

Ai’s mom: Ugaki Hitomi

Note: former mayor, city assembly member

★ Tachibana (lit club president) backstory:
Tachibana loved writing since she was a kid. By middle school she started to think the world was like a story she could steer, that a little push from her would make things go the way she wanted. For example, she once baited Kondo to break up a childhood friend's relationship, just by saying the girl was pretty. Kondo, who liked hitting on girls and messing with relationships, went after her, and Tachibana felt like she could control everything.

Then she met Eiji and felt failure for the first time. She read Eiji’s writing and realized he was way more talented than her. After that, she tried to destroy Eiji's talent by getting close to him and trying to win his feelings. But Eiji is kind and loyal, so he never turned to Tachibana.

Feeling like a failure both as a writer and as a woman because she couldn't seduce Eiji, Tachibana chose another path. She tried to ruin Eiji's relationship with Miyuki by baiting Kondo again. Even though Kondo is now cornered and his actions are coming out, Tachibana's connection to him won't be easy to expose, because she had deleted the chat logs first.

★ Kondo & his dad:
Kondo ran home and begged his dad, who’s a city assembly member, to cover everything up. Kondo told his dad he'd assaulted a student over a romance issue, spread false info about that student online, and whipped up the soccer club to bully him. Police were investigating at the school. Kondo’s dad, who’s aiming for the mayor seat and doesn't want his name stained, told Kondo to hand the case to him and said he'd go to the school to sweep it under the rug. He planned to “offer” something to the teachers, and if that didn't work he'd use political pressure.

Kondo’s dad went to the school during break to talk with the principal and Takayanagi-sensei. He asked them to hide the incident and even threatened them, claiming he had connections that could ruin the school's reputation. But the school didn't back down, the principal slammed the table, told him off, and said teachers' job is to protect and educate students, they wouldn't bow to his demands. The principal said he didn't care if the school's name got stained, what matters are the students who graduate and become decent people. He warned Kondo's dad that a city assembly member should represent the people, not abuse power to crush them.

Unbeknownst to Kondo's dad, the whole conversation was overheard by provincial assembly chair Yamada, who happened to be at the school. Yamada's family owes a big debt to Eiji and Ai, because Eiji and Ai once saved Yamada's father, so Yamada listened in. The talk was recorded and became strong evidence of political pressure.

Kondo's dad's only plan to hide his son's deeds was to try to get Eiji's family to withdraw the police report. So he went to Aono's Kitchen to offer money, claiming his son's actions were just teen mischief and begging Eiji's mother to drop the complaint. She flat-out refused and told him to leave.

Angry, Kondo's dad escalated and threatened to ruin the Aono family's restaurant using his power, even hinting at revoking their license. At that moment, the former mayor stepped out of the restaurant, clapped, and mocked Kondo's dad, asking since when a city assembly member could destroy someone's business. He introduced himself as an old friend of Eiji’s father, and shamed Kondo's dad.

Then Yamada showed up and played the recording of Kondo's dad, proving the abuse of power. Cornered, Kondo's dad tried to apologize with a dogeza (formal apology on the ground), but Eiji’s mother refused. She said they wouldn't withdraw the police report, and they'd even add a new one for the threats.

Kondo's dad realized his political career was over. As he tried to leave, a fancy car blocked him, Ai stepped out. Her presence wasn't like a normal high school girl, her aura put pressure on him. Calm but threatening, Ai warned him not to touch Eiji or his family. She revealed she's the daughter of a high-ranking official, and that made Kondo's dad pale, since Ai's father could destroy his career instantly.

★ Kondo’s capture:
Kondo had been told by his dad not to leave the house, but he panicked when the police came. He tried to run, and officers chased him. During the chase he threw things to slow them down. He ran toward the school and a crowd formed at the gate. Police yelled for people to stop him. That’s when Imai Satoshi, Eiji’s friend, stepped in and tripped Kondo, knocking him down and causing his head to hit the pavement.

Imai didn't want Kondo to ruin Eiji’s big moment that day. Soon after, police arrested Kondo right in front of the students, and many filmed the arrest on their phones.

★ At Aono’s Kitchen after school:
Eiji came home to family and Ai, who’d already been at Aono’s Kitchen. The former mayor and Yamada, the provincial assembly chair, were also there to celebrate the award being given to Eiji for saving Yamada's father's life.

Eiji was asked to take a dish prepared by his older brother, while Eiji’s mom asked to speak with Ai alone to say thanks for supporting Eiji during his hard time. She’d heard about the bullying, Kondo’s lies, and Eiji’s near-suicide. Ai said she actually felt saved by Eiji. Eiji’s mom said she considers Ai like a daughter and asked Ai to see herself as part of the family.

During the celebration, Eiji’s phone buzzed nonstop from messages on the site where he posts his novels, praising him. He even got an offer from an editor who wanted his story in an anthology and asked to know about other works he writes.

★ Kondo’s dad faces party consequences:
Kondo’s dad was summoned by the party branch head to be held accountable. He was asked to hold a press conference and apologize publicly. His rude behavior toward reporters became a hot topic. Feeling cornered, he thought his political career was over and felt abandoned by the party. In desperation and anger, he threatened to expose secrets he knew.

At the press conference, reading a script, he apologized and said he'd consult his lawyer. But reporters pressed him, and under pressure he admitted he’d bribed the branch head to help him run for mayor, claiming his money put that person in position. That confession turned the press conference into a party bribery scandal.

Then the party’s secretary-general, Ugaki, stepped in and revealed the full extent of Kondo’s dad’s wrongdoing, showing proof of the corruption and the sums involved. Kondo’s dad panicked and tried to flee, but police arrested him outside the hotel where the press conference was held.

★ Miyuki’s fall:
That day was terrifying for Miyuki. After Kondo's arrest, classmates asked why the guy who “protected” her was arrested. Miyuki couldn't keep pretending. Pale-faced, she admitted she'd been caught cheating with Kondo and then falsely accused Eiji out of fear. The class turned on her coldly. Humiliated and overwhelmed, Miyuki left school.

Outside, her phone flooded with hateful messages calling her a liar and a slut. She sank into shame and guilt, realizing the consequences of her actions.

At the hospital where her mother was staying, Miyuki found her mom watching the press conference of Kondo's dad's confession. Miyuki had to explain everything, how she betrayed Eiji and that Eiji almost tried to kill himself because of it. Her mother was devastated and ashamed.

Though weak, Miyuki's mother tried to get up and apologize to Eiji’s family, but hospital staff stopped her for health reasons.

Miyuki went home, changed into her school uniform, and couldn't forgive herself. She thought if she hadn’t betrayed Eiji, her life might be different. She planned to end her life, remembering Kondo saying the rooftop door was broken and couldn't be locked, but the school had fixed and locked the door.

Ai confronted Miyuki in the corridor and stopped her. Ai didn't want Eiji to be sad again, she didn't think Miyuki had the right to hurt Eiji more.

★ Tachibana tries again, but is watched:
Tachibana was shocked when Eiji's novel, the one she thought she'd destroyed, became #1 on the web novel site. Her pride shattered when she overheard Eiji and Ai talk about a publisher offer. Tachibana followed Eiji to a cafe and saw him meeting an editor. Eiji’s work had been included in an anthology and he was offered more. Tachibana, who’d tried to imitate Eiji’s style, couldn't capture the same feeling. She wanted to badmouth Eiji to the publisher but stopped, she never gets her hands dirty directly. Still, she started planning a new way to bring him down.

Luckily, the school noticed Tachibana’s suspicious behavior, thanks to Endou Kazuki telling Takayanagi-sensei that he saw Tachibana tailing Eiji when he went to meet the editor. Endou also said Tachibana was around back when Kondo caused trouble in middle school.

Takayanagi-sensei grew suspicious of the lit club, because Miyuki had said her affair with Kondo started from a club member. Sensei called a meeting with all lit club members, and their identical alibis looked scripted. Takayanagi-sensei also kept chat logs from the lit club that were on Eiji’s phone as evidence.

Tachibana thought she was safe because she'd deleted chats from the server, but Kondo’s broken phone was seized by police and data recovery is in progress.

★ Ai & Eiji relationship reveal:
Ai sees Eiji becoming a successful writer and gets scared she might be left behind, so she rushes to get closer to him, even inviting him to her room. She flirts and hints at doing something “wrong” that night, but Eiji just hugs her. Eiji senses Ai’s pain and comforts her, promising he won’t leave her and will stay by her side. Ai is happy, cries in his arms, and asks him to go somewhere the next day to show him something.

The next day they skip school and visit Ai’s mom’s grave. There, Ai reveals her true name: she’s not Ichijou Ai, she’s Ugaki Ai, Ichijou being her mother’s maiden name. After her mother’s death, Ai was bullied by jealous classmates because she was known as a survivor of a tunnel collapse, which increased jealousy. In high school she moved away, started using Ichijou, and lived alone in a mansion her family prepared.

Eiji doesn’t care about her real name and promises he’ll love her anyway. From then on they call each other by their real names.

After returning, Eiji asks his mom why Uncle Ugaki rarely visits Kitchen Aono. It turns out the party secretary-general Ugaki has ties to Kitchen Aono, and maybe that’s connected to Eiji’s father.

Thank you for translating
And in the latest WN chapters, Tachibana's trial has began. Her crime was so vicious, she'll be tried as an adult. Eiji is now the youngest literature awardee, which made her whole world collapse, her situation was also mocked by other detainees

As for Kondo, He'l be going to a juvenile prison soon. He's still thinks he's the 'Next Big Thing of Japanese Football'.. One advice for Kondou: Do not drop the soap

We will know after her trial/result of the defamation lawsuit.

as of current she is still in the wallowing phase and has no idea how to redeem herself, but she is trying to find a way to make ammends. however every attempt she thinks is right in trying to atone turns out to be wrong. first she thinks she'll go apologize but no one wants her apology now and wont hear it. then she thinks she can kill herself so she will no longer be in anyone's way but that would just make more people sadden leaving them with more regrets. she's a lost child who doesn't know what to do next but has at least managed to understand how terrible she was.

Also, let me guess, the girl with glasses in the pictures is Tachibana? I don't remember how her appearance was described in the WN, but that's exactly how i imagined her to look lol

yes that is her

she actually was never described much in the novel we finally got to see her with the recent vol3. now im curious how she'll look in the manga adaptation

Competency??? Holy shit. This is a dream school despite some of the kids being absolute morons.

I know this is kind of an ideal situation but man, reading this instead of the classic school covering its own ass shenanigans is so refreshing. That teacher is dope. So is his best friend for sticking up for him.

Thanks for the translation!

I agree.

It is really nice seeing a story where teachers are actually doing their jobs properly.

Yep I said the same thing too! I thought it would make a good side story too! Basically her redeeming herself, it ain't easy, she's starting somewhere where no one knows who she is, and what she's done, she's starting at square ZERO again, all her relationships grown since toddlerhood, GONE obviously, even her relationship with her mother is HORRIBLE damaged, and

She's still having to pay that compensation money to the Aono's for what she's done

I don't want no new romance crap because it would be unrealistic and Miyuki obviously will be "Staying away from the opposite sex, as she would still be traumatized by what happened with Eiji and Kondo"
with the former, so many years, "GONE!" Tossed in the trash BY HERSELF for what.....the "latter" who ended up being worthless and in the end "Wasn't worth it!" Would love to see her SAVE someone younger then her from the same fate and stupid "decision and motivation" she made (what I mean is when her motivation was "Well I am young, and Eiji will never find out!" By saving, I mean ADVISING said girl from that train of thought and making it clear to her "whatever she thinks, she WILL be found out and it will end badly so DON'T!"
frankly a show that it will "never disappear from her" the guilt of what she did, but she needs to move on from her life, no longer being "That little girl hiding behind Eiji" (as she's shown how "ungrateful" she is for all he's done! It's one thing as his mother noted if they broke up because it didn't work out, hey the relationship could be salvaged if the break up was good on both sides, but what she did is the type of shit an ungrateful person does to "Return favor" It would be a continuation of her "Growth" at the end of this story! She now has to EARN friends the hard way, she doesn't talk about her "past" but she will eventually as to not deceive and avoid the mistake that cost her everything, thinking she was "so smart and deceptive" when she wasn't as Mrs. Aono and alot of people showed her the hard way "she was not!"

Whaaat?!, competent adults in my high school drama manga?

It will sound horrible, but with so many people apologizing and knowing either the truth or part of it. I kind of want to see a "what if" where Ai does not exist and Eiji has nothing to stop him in the rooftop.
