No, it's just showing Cecil the story that would've led him to happiness with heroine. i.e. the original story that Heroine was trying to go for.
The images were so vivid that it did impact him.
Don't worry though, in the end he recovers.
I think afterwards when he talk to Bertia about it she also mention some other endings he could've gotten into that she didn't like (either because the thing that brings him emotions lead him to shun human relations or because he die searching for the thing)

The bird not being completely gone (lost so much of its power that it's basically the equivalent of comatose person) ends up being what convinced the heroine to quietly exit the scene.
Basically knowing that the bird sacrificed itself for her sake filled her with so much guilt that she chose the exile to a monastery far away but has high concentration of spiritual power in hope of praying and resurrecting it even if it'll take decades.
