Hope this is understandable.

Sounds like they're the ones misunderstanding something. The issue isn't that it was revealed that Natsuki was a boy and the usual nonsense of Japanese pronouns. The issue is that even after that was revealed, the chapter is still using "she" as their pronoun. That's a failure of consistency.

So tell them that.

Yeah I think this is definitely a tough localization problem -- going for "accuracy" here doesn't work because English readers don't have the Japanese copy to compare against. It just reads like a poor translation, so they should take some liberties in order to make it read more polished / consistent, even if the JP alludes to different genders (which is not possible in English).

Some things won't ever come across as clearly, e.g., Keigo, so I think they have to just make sure it doesn't read as bizarre for English readers.

So that was his mom at the end, right?

I don't remember, does he know what his mom looks like or could it just be some weird Gundam Newtype detection? We've wasted so much time on the actor/idol shit that I've forgotten key details of the story

just use "they"????? it can be used as a gender-neutral single-person pronoun and flows completely naturally in the flow of conversation.
Or rather, just keep using the name 'Natsuki' until the gender is revealed? Why would you use 'they' in reference to your own sibling when the said person is in fact a male?

I don't believe in the word 'they' when referring to a single person (only exception is when the gender keeps physically change, like one has a penis, then next changes to vagina and vice versa and personality is changed as well). Natsuki in this case doesn't count as 'they' when Natsuki is actually male to begin with.

I agree it's unusual in the context, but singular they is literally older than singular you in English. If you're talking about someone when you have no idea, e.g. "I'm expecting someone to drop in later. They should be here around 3pm."... I mean it's just a basic usage of the language. No worries if you're ESL, but not "believing" in it is, frankly, absolutely bonkers.

I've lost interest in this manga with the recent developments, so for those that want spoilers on whether their romantic relationship is conclusive or open-ended, I ran some of the LN chapters through an LLM.
Tail end of the second last chapter of Volume 8 (the last volume):

"Hey, Akira..."
"What?"
"Were you really awake back then? You know, the morning after we first slept together, I whispered something in your ear, right? Did you hear that?"

Still pressing her forehead against my chest, Akira shook her head. It tickled a little.
"Truth is, I don't clearly remember anything after 'actually'."
"I see..."

I was slightly relieved, but if that was the case, maybe this was the right time.
"Akira, lend me your ear for a sec."
"Eh? Sure, I don't mind..."

Akira wriggled her way up.
"I'm only going to say those words to you one more time. Actually... ──"

Because it was embarrassing, I told her by whispering into her ear.
My true feelings for Akira──

When I finished, Akira shot her head up.
In the dim light, I could see her surprised face. She was probably blushing furiously.
"Big bro, that was... Does that mean you've liked me from the start──"
"Look... I'm embarrassed, so please don't say it out loud..."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner!?"
"Well, uh... I thought it might have just been the all-nighter talking, so I cooled my head for a bit... And considering Dad and the others, I figured I should hold back..."
"Then why tell me right now!?"
"That's, um..."

It was deeply embarrassing to say it out loud, but...──

"I... I couldn't hold back anymore..."

At that, Akira suddenly hugged me.
"Mmmmmm...! I love youuu...!"
"H-Hey! Keep your voice down...!"
"Big bro, I really love you! I'm going to be by your side forever!"

It was a shame that I couldn't see Akira's joyous face clearly in this darkness.
However, well──maybe it was better this way.
My face had to be the reddest it had ever been right now. If Akira wasn't here, I might have been flailing my arms and legs around wildly.
I definitely didn't want anyone to see me like that.
Not as her brother, but as a man──

"Um, well then, Akira... is it okay?"
"Yeah... ──Come here, Big bro..."

Akira closed her eyes and puckered her lips.
I lifted my upper body slightly and brought my face closer to Akira's──

In the silence, the rustling of clothes, sighs, and the creaking of the bed intermingled.
The dark is something that stirs up anxiety and loneliness, but right there, our warmth undeniably existed.

I think people are missing a key point. Majima has trouble believing that Natsuki is boy even after being told as much.
