So non-spoiler: yes, Char can do anything she sets her mind out to. And her brother helps her.
That's one of the things I like about this series; Haruto doesn't go megalomaniacal power-trippy or edgelord.

vs

I'd bet 9 times out of ten people would choose to go to the school of magic

I mean, I would prefer it because it's novel but just like how a book you might otherwise have liked can get ruined if you have to read it for an assignment or how science is exciting when it's on tv or youtube, once you're forced to engage with it and take tests, it can definitely lose it's luster and become boring or a chore.
