you know Laem is a true cop because she flexes her authority and then asks why the person she's talking to is afraid. Real excited to see if Meryl has anything in mind to deal with a stand attack while Paco makes his way over though, especially if she truly doesn't have a stand of her own

also, this bit was a highlight, every now and again there's a panel like this that has me enjoying this crew and leaves me wondering if the lava rock could be used to bring people together (or even bring them "back")

It looks like Ningbo's stand creates bubbles of hot gas in objects, and can even create them under people's skin. We saw the keyboard and meryl's arm, they started inflating and lifting into the air like a hot air balloon, and hot air rises, that's how I arrived to this conclusion. This would also fit with his firefighter job. If his stand requires him to touch the object or his stand to touch the object, I could see how this could be easily countered.

I wonder if Meryl Mei Qi has a stand because this isn't going to end well if she doesn't have one. That said, even if she does have a stand, it'd still look suspicious if she protects herself or not, so someone is going to need to come in and interrupt those two investigators, lest the heist team be without their boss, and a community lose their beloved principal, fashion designer, and motherly role model (who is also a mother).

Obvious note: I don't think it takes a rocket scientist for someone to naturally set off Laem Chabang's pets. She uses nematodes to sense fear, but normal people would be feeling fear at this situation because an alleged cop and a firefighter suddenly came into the school looking for a student, and then start saying stuff like they don't want any trouble and just want to get the information real quick and leave. A firefighter wouldn't normally be with a cop that's on duty, and then they start saying shit to try and strongarm information out of MMQ. Anyone would be having alarm bells going on in their head by that point, and that's before Ningbo decided to start using his stand.

It raises the question on if it would be a good thing or a bad thing if someone pulled the fire alarm at the school right now, because most people would panic out of the school and I doubt all but a few people would make a quick lap to check if people, especially the principal, was able to GTFO.

"Mrs. Principal why are 'you' afraid?"
"Huh? Afraid? What do you mean?"
"'You' are afraid Mrs. Principal, tell me what is it that 'you' are afraid of?"
"Who is afraid? What are you talking about?"
"'You', Mrs. Principal, 'you' are afraid"
"I don't understand you, lady. Who, in this room right now, is afraid? Can you be clear?"

And they kept going on and on and on...
Is it a dangerous place?

i think he's probably just a regular rock human. i guess that since the bunch of rock humans around morioh were a syndicate working to profit from rokakaka, they're hostile to the humans (working to undermine their syndicate).
But from previous part we know that rock humans don't really form families due to how their empathy and related works different from humans. r was it just a regional thing.

Is Charmingman a rock human, or some kind of friendlier rock human subspecies/hybrid? Maybe they become more empathetic after interbreeding with normal humans?

I don't think his rough skin and long lifespan (rock humans can live for 240 years), not to mention the "calcification of waste products" being the top cause of death (rock humans crumble into rocks when they die), were just randomly brought up. Then there are also other "rock-life" earthworms and moles in his village, the moles are probably rock animals, while the earthworms could be rock insects.
I think they are just the vampires of this universe given that rock humans were pillarmen.

Exactly. And what is the EMERGENCY in question, officer? In this case of an urgent reference research..? 🤔

I know it is annoying that she said so many times "are you afraid, why are you afraid" but that is the point, to be annoying and make the other person uncomfortable. So that they break and are less able to properly lie.

Damn Araki making the scene feel so intense with something as dumb nematode glasses.
if you wanna see (or hear I should say) something a lot more intense that's nematode related, I suggest you take a listen to episode 32 of The Magnus Archives, or look at some fanart of the character Jane Prentiss
(I know Jane Prentiss's worms aren't exactly Nematodes but they're the closest thing that actually exists)
PS, it is a horror show/character so, be warned when you search
