i choose to believe that her closing her eyes symbolizes the separation from the rest of them in that sensep 5: tarou's face omg. Feels so awkward
It's a bit iffy in this case. Tarou has already said she's not planning on getting bottom surgery and that's a requirement in Japan, along with sterilization, in order to be recognized on legal documents as a woman.Huh? Isn’t one of them a trans woman? Or is this just a case of japan being japan and she has internalised transphobia or something
Yeah, that stuff…It's a bit iffy in this case. Tarou has already said she's not planning on getting bottom surgery and that's a requirement in Japan, along with sterilization, in order to be recognized on legal documents as a woman.
Anywho, the quartet are doing the best they can to reassure Aki in that body image struggles are varied and valid, and they both empathize and synpathize with him in his issues.
I mean, you can still be a woman even if the government disagrees lolIt's a bit iffy in this case. Tarou has already said she's not planning on getting bottom surgery and that's a requirement in Japan, along with sterilization, in order to be recognized on legal documents as a woman.

”Man” is a more literal translation, but what would be “male” in a literal isn’t something you’d say in this context, unfortunately.Rina could also just be comfortable with being "male" as a way of meaning "AMAB" or "biologically male" or one of those such things, while definitely not being a man. As a transgender woman I basically feel that way, I would be okay being lumped in as "male" in a circumstance like this. I know a lot of others (probably most?) aren't comfortable with that, but it's not universal.
And Lemon being the one to say that makes he think he's using a term which he knows won't put Rina out, but also doesn't out her so she can explain that on her own terms. (Even though he kinda sorta already outed her, because this is still Lemon we're talking about.) And while it may be weird for the 'coming out' to be "I'm actually trans, not a crossdresser" instead of "I'm trans, not a cis woman" it seems like Rina's fine with that framing. Honestly I can understand the caution to not fully explain to a stranger what her deal is; he could be into crossdressing but not be okay with being transgender, y'know?
But this is pretty purely an analysis of the text as translated, since I don't know Japanese at all to guess at the original or what terminology divides may have been in play.
Yeah, but social pressures are more intense and gender identity issues are less widely known.I mean, you can still be a woman even if the government disagrees lol
I went over it all aboveAbout the "male" thing, the whole question is what the original text said ? Or does it have the same connotation in japanese and in english

Pretty rational, as far as I see it.I am irrationally annoyed on Tarou's behalf.
Now I'd say that's an accurate translation in line with the intent of the dialog「だってわたしら 男ですし」
