Just because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean you should stop doing it unless they asked you too. It's so easy to see them as villains, but for the Mother you can't just not greet her. In some cultures like in the Caribbean, you won't get slapped but you will get scolded for not having the manners to greet somebody. That's on you, boo boo.
