@LordofLeechers It's also a very modern notion to claim that it would be a war crime to disguise yourself in your opponents uniform. Way back when it was just one of many cunning plans, along with hiding in an ambush (or a wooden horse) or attacking from the wrong direction.
Hmm.. looking at it, this particular case is also in a "winner decides if it was a crime" camp. Since he didn't partake in the attack, just gave a false message (escape this way), and the rule is "It is prohibited to make use of the flags or military emblems, insignia or uniforms of adverse Parties while engaging in attacks or to shield, favour, protect or impede military operations."
