I wonder if Aka would be bold enough to end the series with the two of them not together.. I mean, for a series that loves to parody and avert some aspects of romcoms, ending with the main characters splitting and finding a way to achieve their dreams in their own accord would actually be fitting and quite nice.

Ehm... Can't you study in Stanford online during the COVID outbreak at this day and age?

@HungryIm This is not regular Japan, since the Shinomiya's are a surviving Zaibatsu that holds monopoly over a lot of shit. They're basically untouchable before the law unless they display their dirty laundry list openly.

This is really an issue in Japans society, that men dont want women who are smarter.
But dont worry there is a solution. In my country we lack smart women and asian women are very popular anyway. So dont hesitate to come to europe.

Lol shinomiya gave up real quick thinking of alternatives. Very strange. I’m hoping other chapters will flesh out the longer game strategy.

Thank you for a translation that doesn't sound like it was done by a Japanese high schooler. It's also always nice to get a manga shouting out my own alma mater (MIT).

lol the instant lockdowns are over they're going to make all students return to school. Online test administration is for satellite programs, not actual bachelor's degrees from top universities. Every professor can't wait to stop with these 100+ person chaos zoom meetings for freshman classes.

Lol Ikr, they complain about how trash the series is and how they soooo dropped it at like the first chapter and then you see them in chapter 146 still complaining about it

>woman acts like a morally void cold sociopath, divorces husband, tries to take the kids, abandons the male one, just because things went a little south
"oh that's fine she just got a LITTLE depressed, perfectly understandable that she ruined their family, just a victim of circumstance, lmao"
>yakuza acts like a generic yakuza
"REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PATRIARCHY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
I knew that japan is getting westernized, but I wish they'd keep commie propaganda, especially when it's biased, out of their entertainment.
They should have learned from the west, we allowed socialist propaganda into our media and it didn't turn out well.
Politics don't belong inside non-political manga anyway.

@Separius The fuck are you on about? She's specifically referring to him and her family, which functions on Showa era tier patriarchal family values, where she is seen as nothing more than a means to an end for marriage for family prospects. Hell, they are trained to be sociopaths with their upbringing.

@Ingway @tabris51 If that's the case, it makes me wonder if actually going to Stanford together is a better option. If Shinomiya household being above the laws in Japan is the problem, how about Shirogane, Kaguya, and Hayasaka all escaping together to the US? Kaguya's family may cut her financial support, but I think it's still better than staying within the family just to be forced into the marriage.

@HungryIm They're conservative about expanding their business beyond Japan, that doesn't mean they can't have influence there. They could easily make a case about her running away without their consent and being worried, and if she decides to talk, money could easily sway the authorities into sending her back, hell their influence alone could do it. She needs to gain power from the inside exactly because it's not a simple matter of running away.

It's tough to see all this talk about patriarchy and not think of current sociopolitical ideas, but I'm gonna give Akasaka the benefit of the doubt and assume he has the authority to discuss this, since japanese patriarchy is a thing and it's not too far of a stretch to assume he's knowledgeable on it.

Back to the story, as if Prez is gonna let any of that just play out. Plus, with the current news about the manga ending soon, this is likely heading to a "Boarding School Juliet" conclusion, with the last ditch effort to make the couple work being a joint operation between all parties. And I liked BSJ a whole bunch, so I'm game for it. Make us proud, Aka-sensei.
