I'm curious what the original writing is, because "Don't forget, you're a girl too" being told again and again to the lead, as a fits-all "you need to be protected/let the guy save you" is just boring, and passé even at the date it was first published. "You don't have to do everything yourself" or "You can rely on me" or "Accepting help doesn't make you any less of a strong female role model" , those sorts of encouragements are more productive then "hey no matter how strong you are, you will at some point be unable to push any further because you're a girl " is just annoying.
I read the first few volumes as a teen and was revisiting it now a decade later and don't feel I missed much.
Maybe in original Japanese text it's less grating but as is it's just got sexist overtones despite trying so hard to show a 'strong confident independent lead'.
