The Demon Lord had the philosopher stone, that stone is what allowed the healer hero to effectively turn back time.

Actually it was the opposite, the heroes thought that healing potions would be good enough and that the Healer Hero was only useful for the XP multiplier that he granted.
Note: All of the heroes give a XP multiplier and they stack multiplicatively.
