I really like the mc and the setting and everything and i’d really like to give this a 8 or 9/10 but after about 60 chapters or so the pacing and writing absolutely fuc king CRASH into a snails pace and at a certain point you’re not seeing a hint of the main character for like 20 chapters and its just really disappointing to see this classic shonen pacing issue strike yet again. can’t tell u how many time’s i’m reading and thinking “stop talking about what you’re gonna do and fuc king DO IT already goddam!”

also I had to go to another website to find a proper english translation of this but i'm dropping this review here too

We've finally reached the end of this travesty of a manga. When this first came out I was more excited for a series then I'd been in years. Something that broke the mold, turned a genre on it's head. Instead, what we got was:

1. A super hero who lost his secret identity 1/4 of the way through the series, with no repercussions

2. The same guy who was supposedly a master of monster anatomy, resorting to just punching them extra hard

3. The literal first villain in the series becoming the final boss with zero character development

4. An extra super secret true final boss which has so little personality it didn't bother to even speak

5. The mystery behind the MC's powers and how it is tied to the secret boss not actually mattering to how they take it down

There were so many missed opportunities for a promising series only for it to devolve into shonen "this time I'll punch you even harder" battle B.S. The lost potential just makes it hurt all the more in hindsight.

Was good until the meddle, after that it got a little of the rails and was a downhill from there. On top of that, an L final that just concludes the series for the sake of concluding it.

WHY WHY WHY WHY I know the circumstances but I'm so disappointed with the ending it was as it should be it's prfect in a way but author didn't even bless us with the romance between two childhood friends not even as a side theme bro I want them TOGETHER Kafka fr deserves her 😭
and the fact that the ending was so plain also bothers me it's like they made it just to fuck off and never look back

Fr it deserves a way better ending not just a conclusion to fuck off they ended it like a 10 chap romcom he wakes up goes straight from the hospital to meet everyone there's few scenes of the daily life after the events and that's it at least they could have shown if anything happened between mc and the commander

Adding a couple more points:

  1. #9 is considered the worst kaiju disaster/calamity that happened so far, yet basically no one die, except for the Shinomiya captain that died early.
  2. Most of the characters are simply not used/utilized toward the end. Most of Kafka's team members are just gone for a while before the final chapter, contributing nothing.
  3. Ancient warriors were used to explain the origin of kaijus, but was also abandoned, no kaiju actually have any kind of explanation why they exist.
  4. One of the reason they can win against #9 is that Kafka traded his heart for the kaiju core, forsaking his humanity. However, that stake immediately got removed by the dead Shinomiya captain giving him a new heart and Kafka returns to be a normal human.
  5. The author tried to build the relationship with both Mina and Shinomiya daughter, but then completely forgotten in the end, showing nothing to conclude those romance plot points. (People are complaining about this in the manga plus comment)
