They went back from that timeline, who knows what the demon lord (who can now remember, though they don't know it yet) has been doing
The theory someone put out previously, the DL possessing the arch-villain, makes the most sense so far IMHO

You know, it's hard to make a time-loop story without feeling like the author's just building in his own retcons. The temptation must be strong. Just like the strong temptation I feel for Lauro's mom, forgot she was a total smoke show. Hope she makes it in one of these runs!
