Ugh... I know you can't expect emotional reactions to be rational but jeez that's such a lame reason to swear off of love. He didn't have his heart broken or nothing, all that happened is that he once had a dumb friend who refused to listen. And from that he concluded it's best to stay forever alone.

This new revelation about Tomo does explain why he is so hesitant, and does create an interesting hurdle for Ibuki to clear. It also provides a good dilemma for Tomo, with his whole helping everyone thing, and not wanting to hurt someone, especially someone close to him like Ibuki, as it's sometimes unavoidable.
It also makes a lot of sense for Tomo to be immature, considering that he is literally a teenager in school, so a type of person who is expected to act immature. And it is a good thing for him to grow out of, as this story contimues.

It'll be interesting to see how jealous Ibuki is going to get, but I hope this doesn't end in some stupid argument about them being around another person, where they compeltely talk past each other and don't make it clear that there is nothing romantic going on between them.

I think the next few chapters could be quite exhausting, but the author, sadly, dug this hole, and now they have to get the story out of it again...
