I feel like it's probably because a lot of authors and the Japanese audience are idol simps. So this sort of "must protect the purity of the person I stan because they're an existence beyond my reach" garbage actually unironically appeals to them.

Its crazy that ibuki actually seemingly gives a flying fuck about these random peoole that are her "fans". If she doesnt tell him to stop worrying about that garbage sson i will be very mad. It feels like this entire manga has been about how perceptions of masculinity have negatively affected both of them(Ibuki not being able to drop the "cool" act or confess and tomo feeling unworthy cause hes not "cool" enough), but somehow its always tomo whos seemingly framed as at fault.
