Thanks for picking this back up! I've been missing this one.

Though oof I felt this chapter. My dad was a long haul trucker till I was about 12. He'd leave on a run Monday at dawn and frequently wouldn't get back till almost midnight on Fridays. You'd have only a precious few hours over the weekend till he was gone again. It seemed horribly unfair at the time but you do gain an understanding of how much every one sacrifices when you get older. /End blogpost
Ultimately it's always up to each child how they feel about their parents' actions and choices (and I cannot speak for anyone's economic situation) but I think I fundamentally disagree that "spending time with your children" is something that should be sacrificed. The relationship I have with my own parents is complicated in no small part because of this kind of distance, and my father didn't have a job that took him away from home for days or weeks on end.

"The dad's not a deadbeat I swear!!" :pacman:
I'm glad I was super-busy with work and didn't get to read this until well after… looks like I'm the only one who read this and thought "Wow, sensei… way to paint yourself all the way into a tiny corner about dad being a thoughtless jerk, then make a heroic-but-unsuccessful leap for the door. I don't buy it, but nice try." 😆

But at least there's someone else who took it with a big grain of salt. 😌
