Besides if Shiroi gets rejected, then what. She has to hang around with the boy she loves and the beautiful popular girl that got him instead? And have no other friends or options. Like damn that’s a bummer lol.

The funniest thing about Asai's superficiality is that his lack of screentime makes him feel even more superficial to the readers. Niina acting out her shoujo manga fantasies, while still being trapped by her own idealized tropes, is a nice throwback to her own start as a mangaka.

Now if only she had the gall to do all this with Uehara….
