Are you reading with your eyes closed, or are you incapable of interpreting nuance in words? She doesn't want the pseudo relationship to end because she is scared if it no longer existed he wouldn't need her anymore. It has nothing to do with her not wanting more. It has everything to do with her not wanting less. She isn't aware of how he feels about her, and is scared of things changing to something worse. It's the same thing with Koi. She didn't want an answer to her confession because she is scared of getting rejected. Her telling him to not answer her is a direct confirmation that her intentions are the exact same as Niina. They both want the comfort of their current relationship. Uehara has confirmed that he is in love with Niina on multiple occasions. Koi also while being a better developed side character than a lot of other love triangle type manga. Is still severely under developed, and is basically the exact same character from her introduction to now. We have not seen any actual growth in her to justify this "Best girl" label you are giving her. We barely know her. It is fine to have certain preferences (less fine for me because she genuinely looks like a middle schooler), but you are making something out of nothing and displaying a distinct lack of media literacy with your statement.
Are you forcing more into the nuance because of your desires or are you seeing emotional ghosts? She should have wanted the “relationship” to continue because it acknowledges the complicated nature of what they have: “relationship" depends on the angle it’s being approached from byt the person speaking it AND the one reading it. Simultaneously it would show her subtle change because from her own point of view it at least is no longer “pseudo”, YET moreso shows her unwillingness to attribute anything more to it without knowing how it would be received. By your own writing even “current relationship” has more capacity for regarding the situation they find themselves in.
I would disagree that she is basically the same, but furthermore having the potential for developing more in the story is a bad thing? Because of how they are positioned now, it is the best time for them both to advance together evolving as a pair. YOU are blinded by overweighted preference. You demonstrate a misuse of media literacy and a lack of media comprehension.

I just binged this since yesterday. What a gem.
  • Flawed but super interesting characters
  • MC isn't a creep, a jerk, or a sniveling coward
  • Girls falling in love with the MC that actually feels real, not some farfetched nonsense, based on actually getting closer to him in real scenarios
  • A love triangle that doesn't feel super forced, with two girls that are both really interesting
  • Side characters that enhance the story
  • Even though the MC is a little pathetic, his growth feels both purposeful and not unrealistic, which makes you want to root for him
Super happy I decided to pick this up.

No I am just capable of seeing things at more coherent level than you are. Don't project your inability to gather subtext and nuance from a situation onto me.

She should have wanted the “relationship” to continue because it acknowledges the complicated nature of what they have: “relationship" depends on the angle it’s being approached from byt the person speaking it AND the one reading it. No you are just flat wrong. She clearly wants more from their relationship, but is scared that it will change in a negative way. Again you must not have been reading the same manga I have been.
I would disagree that she is basically the same, but furthermore having the potential for developing more in the story is a bad thing?
She has not changed hardly at all. The only thing she has done is say "Good morning" to a classmate a single time. She still has 0 friends outside of the manga club, and the only thing that has been portrayed by her is that she has feelings for Uehara. I like characters for what they are now. Not what potential they have to be in the future. She has almost no development as a character so far, so i just don't like her. Plus she looks like a middle schooler.
YOU are blinded by overweighted preference. You demonstrate a misuse of media literacy and a lack of media comprehension.
I find it ironic that you say I am blinded by my overweighted preference when I have not once said my actual preference. I've just pointed out your inability to interpret nuance in words and phrases. The only thing I have said preference wise is I don't like the fact that Koi literally looks like a middle schooler, and it isn't her being short that I am talking about. She dresses in "cutesy" childlike outfits when she isn't being sexualized by the mangaka and her personality and general mannerisms.

I'm not a cliche hater in general, but holy shit I'm sick if "random comically evil dude hitting on the fl" episodes in every romance story

I was really hoping a good samaritan would step in, or that the MC would go schizo mode and start aiming for the balls and biting and scratching and all. Ah well, it's still satisfying, but it would have been more satisfying had those scum gotten theirs too. :pout:

You might not want more, Miyamoto, but I do, so confess now.
Meta jokes aside, she should realize that if he ends up with another girl their relationship will still change, so better to make her move while she can.
You know, this is actually really good advice for high schoolers caught up in indecision and uncertainty.

An advice to everyone reading this manga: Never pick a fight with more than one person. No matter how strong you are, no matter how tall you are, no matter how skilled you are, if you're up against a group you're gonna get your shit rocked, especially if the other side is unwilling to use underhanded tactics.

You can think that you're some super Chad that will use your superior strength to shake the guys and get their girls, but you are not.

Street fights doesn't follow the conventions of fictional stories, you will end up hurt.

About the chapter. Those playboys don't understand anything, Uehara is super cute, obviously he fits well with Miyamoto, they need to get their eyes checked.
The boy was a hero, despite all pain and risks, and hopefully Miyamoto will realize that she needs to convey his feelings for him
Always have a group of friends to fight with you just incase your against a bunch of guys,
But you didn’t bring that up did you?

Also nobody is out here thinking they some super chud when they just wanna defend themselves. Nobody is thinking about getting girls

No you seriously are falling to what you accuse. YES my interpretation has her wanting more and that focuses on moving the definition of what they have along from “pseudo”. If you read my response and did not understand that, then the problem is with your ability to comprehend. That’s why I stated “you lack media comprehension”, because it seems like you actually can’t deal with information and description that falls outside of what you WANT to see. That’s also why I said, "YOU are blinded by overweighted preference.”
You cannot have a conversation or debate when you are fundamentally incapable of understanding a counter point. Let me make this clear: the way that she has expressed her desires for the future is lacking because it shows no change from the initial point. Despite them exercising change, and examining the difference in what has brought them to this point, SHE is willingly documenting as if NONE of that has occurred. The nuance is not present because of the wording and nuance COULD be present if there was a shift in wording, as I mentioned.
You lack comprehension and it shows more and more.

このぎじレンアイが ずっと続きますよに♡ ニーナ

This is the Japanese. If you can actually read and understand Japanese, there is a ton of nuance here that isn't possible to capture cleanly in English without sounding robotic or overly poetic.

ぎじレンアイ (擬似恋愛 / Giji Ren'ai)
This carries a heavy weight. It’s an explicit acknowledgment that this pseudo-relationship has boundaries or an expiration date, paired with a desire for it not to expire.

擬似恋愛 vs. ずっと (Zutto)
The emotional paradox comes from pairing giji ren'ai (pseudo-romance) with zutto (forever) and yoni (a sincere wish/prayer). It acknowledges the setup is "fake" or conditional, but bestows real meaning upon the feelings behind it. She doesn't want the dynamic to end because the real comfort and joy she gets from it would end too.

She is essentially writing: "Even though this setup isn't a real relationship, my feelings are real, and I want this feeling to keep going." That's the true nuance of the wish.

This is not to say the translation of the wish is bad. As I said before it is almost impossible to convey all of the nuance of japanese when translating it to english. I can read both proficiently, and am able to understand the nuances in both. I read the raws of every chapter before I read them in english because I get to read them as they release.

MOTHERFUCK LEAD WITH THE FACT THAT YOU ARE READING JAPANESE FIRST BEFORE THE TRANSLATION! I, as one who is learning Japanese and doesn’t have access to the raws, literally cannot have a conversation with you on the same level. In english my argument works because her moving from saying “pseudo-relationship” to “relationship” is what does the heavy lifting and carries the nuance.
If something is doubly unclear due to the translation as well as the interpretation then the basis of the conversation is different. ALSO, please look back- you never mentioned the nuance of the JAPANESE clearly. I will still hold that in the english interpretation mine is far closer to what you want to say.

Sorry I should have probably been more clear on that. Also my basis for reading it in english is based on what I read in japanese. The direct translation of it is technically correct because nuances of certain things gets lost in English, so my interpretation is based on accuracy of the phrases chosen. It can form a bias towards interpretations because of knowing the original text. Certain choices of wording carry an edge of nuance that others will not pick up on because of lack of context from the source material.

In essence I read it differently due to an understanding of what the original Japanese was trying to convey. That is my fault I will admit that.

Tho sometimes I think to convey things better a direct translation can be a detrament to the overall message. Like what has happened here. In hindsight losing basically all of the intended nuance causes people to draw these conclusions.

I will take the fault on this one due to going into this with an understanding of the original message it was trying to convey causing an interpretation that you may not have come to due to lack of the context I was privy to.

Counterpoint: Some people reading this manga absolutely need to get their shit rocked, at least once.

What I like about this manga is that the MC not a wimp atleast he tried his best, unlike some manga with 400 chapter+ where the MC is a wimp and no progression at all.
