I love this manga, I laugh so hard when reading this, it feels like watching konosuba for the first time. If there is romance I hope it's only between Ren and Turner and not a harem

This is some banger ass shit. It has just the right mix of low-effort, comedy, and overall story structure.
It's easy not to take too seriously, but also shows that it has places to go. Hopefully this one will not devolve with too much "problematic" things, like: "oh no, I was discovered to be a magician, and now I must enlist in a magical school and bump-shoulders with nobles" and whatnot. Just let the dude stay in his village, and maintain some level of slice-of-life + action energy.

The art is crazy, its like those old comic expressions where you can totally imagine what they were doing.

Don't usually jump in forums, but I have to know: is there something I'm missing regarding this manga?

I've read the 12 chapters that have been uploaded as of the date of this message, but nothing from this manga pops out to me. The plot is your average isekai mc having a power trip fantasy with unexplained op powers and using them to guarantee his "peaceful life" at the village, which would check all the standard boxes for an isekai EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THERE IS ZERO MOTIVE. The literal only thing his past life is good for is to explain his preference for "alone time" away from the village kids; no explanation for his powers (1 in 1000 mage is all they say lol), why specifically he wants a peaceful life (was he overworked in his past life, or relatives giving him a hard time? Who knows), or anything else backstories are good for. He doesn't even stop once to think about the potential consequences of his actions (why let people believe there is a monster if you know they're gonna spend tons of time, labor, and money to hunt said monster?), which is the bare minimum of what an adult his age should know.

Characters are one-dimensional in both their design and actions. I get it if the manga is targetting readers who just want a quick break and not think about anything, but a slice of life manga would have done a lot better in that regard compared to what it has turned into.

Is there something I'm missing with this manga? I honestly don't see the appeal; like was the light novel 10x better or something, and did the manga not do it justice? Please let me know.

It's alright. Nothing to write home about, that bunch of cardboard cutout kids are probably the highlight. Oh, and if you can stomach the fact that this guy gonna make all his decisions base on "superior modern nippon sensibility" instead of the one of the world he's currently LIVING IN. That one gonna cost a lot of lives and waste a lot of resources.

Don't worry, whenever he does, the author tries to justify it afterwards in a video game sense where villains you spare end up helping later on probably like giving plot relevant info or some shit.

No WN is not really better. The manga is prob better cuz it cuts out a lot of the MC's nonsensical monologues. These 12 chapters cover a 50+ arc. Really the story is about a guy dealing with assholes or selfish people. The MC deals with a lot of crap which is sort of how the author deals with like of motive or drive in the story. Like being almost sold as a slave or dealing with overly manipulative women. His power is also inconsistent af like one
moment he's channeling magic to stop a bomb and the next he is struggling to fight mobs. Only to then split the sea like Moses without much issue besides being caree for my a tsundere twin tail ojou-sama who's getting too familiar with him.

Potential but even as a light comedy isekai the artist seems to have a stroke every three to four panels and draws realy weird faces.
