I almost hoped he'd say "What about Paladin" instead of hero to make it even more blatant.

Paladins aren't usually skilled in sorcery, though.
He's more of a red mage without the limiting factors to his spells. So 'hero' seems rather appropriate.

Guys, he’s a red mage in terms of his skills, and a paladin in the idea that he’s a hero of the gods.

That aside, this gives me Saihate no Paladin vibes. Will this be an imitation or something better? A boy named Will, adopted by three skilled individuals, living in isolation of the outside world beyond his home...

Magic swordsman would work. Mages tend to have healing spells. Though his connection to gods makes him more of a paladin, his magic and lack of armor is a bit wrong for that. I guess rogue works too, or if we go by anime standards, ninja (particularly fits with the god theme).

Well at least the start might be an homage to the idea of Saihate no Paladin or at least another interpretation of it.

For someone who read Paladin, it felt very strict in its story telling with the whole Priest/Paladin concept of the character. It felt sorta preachy at times in regards to how Will approached things.
This seemed to go the generic OP MC route but I hope the following story is more open and enjoyable to read rather than a copy. If it does copy the main antagonist then I'll be dropping this real quick.

How about "Sage Knight"?

Sage is a word used both for a Magician's and Healer's as well, so it could work.

@Morose I actually really like that suggestion, I think it fits and flows well while still suggesting how mastering those three skills together is a fairly unique existence

in fire emblem mage knight or priestess or mage fighter can use the whole things and they are the ultimate evolution of a mage or sometimes a healer or a princess

I get a warning for spoiler guessing and that guess was wrong. Omnipotence god didn't teach him anything.

He's a D&D Cleric, but with 4 domains.

Isn't this basically the set up of Faraway Paladin? I mean I don't really mind since I liked it but I would have liked to see more of the gods interacting with child Will.

Hmm i wonder, i know faraway paladin. The main theme is same but there rarely original content in this few years. The detail is bit different too since in faraway paladin,i think the one who take care of mc are his real father and mother, they also undead not god.
