The great thing about something like this is it's all up in the air. You can interpret it any way you like, and there's is no wrong interpretation... (except the one I don't like, those are WRONG, dammit!)

Anyway, it's probably more meaningful for those with some more background knowledge in the Shinto and native spirit religion of Japan, but even most Westerners can feel the glimpse of something a little deeper here.

This reminds me of a hentai.... I know it sounds weird, but let me explain

It was about a warrior that fought and won against this female Oni. She tells him she will grant him a wish and he wishes to become her husband. They have lot's of children and from the last few pages we see him as an old man about to die, in that moment he remembers that it was not their first time together. He was a reincarnation of her past lover Who died protecting her in a war against some monsters searching for her immortality. She told him that in his next life, the moment she sees her she will accept him, so that they can have the happy life they could not have before. He dies and we see his next reincarnation on the modern era. The hentai ended with the 2 of them encounter each other again. The oni trying to contain from telling stories of what happened with the kids and other stuff. The last line is "It's a pleasure to me you again" leaving in a bittersweet ending and a "new love" story for his next life
