The issue with using the bow isnt the arrows, it's the bow part, I imagine. Specifically, drawing it with your arms in the narrow space and not being able to aim properly in the group, but the Ice arrows seem easier to control, thus, theres no issue... Also, therye not actually arrows. Theyre just projectiles made of ice magic.

@welcome2atlantis Thats only a problem if you have the actual cave itself. As long as you understand the cave and don't draw from or alter its more solid structure you should be fine. What i mean by that is that changing a thin layer of the ground into clay is probably fine since its not supporting anything.

Trivia: the 2 daggers he bought were 16th century Swiss Holbein daggers. Or at least one of them on the right is on page 4. But both of them are the same in later pages for some reason.

@Aichan
You're totally right about that. Speaking of insect heads, female mantises will cannibalize and eat the head off of their male mate while he's still in the act of...coitus. And he'll continue humping and pumping it's seed long after its head is completely eaten off.

I think he meant he was bad at 'shaping' magic, rather than just being bad at magic.

@Harry_Dong in as much as a SS Ehrendolch is based on a 16th century dagger, sure... but on page 9 you've got an obvious set of eagles set in the middle of the black handle, the SS circular logo near the top, and an attempt to incorporate the hilarious silver scabbard chain that the wiki mentions old officers got (a 1 second google image search will turn it up).

I mean, quite frankly it's obvious from the 'throwing daggers' the artist was just doing a couple of quick searches/purchases and this is what they got... but I'm a little surprised that it made it past multiple editors and such only to get used a whole bunch.

I didn't notice that eagle before (since it wasn't on the one in page 4 where I was more focused on), but yeah now that you mention it, you're totally right. I saw the throwing knives too, being a very modern mass-produced design. And I agree...fairly certain the artist just did a couple of quick google image searches for references as well, lol. At the very least, I guess we can't say they're too fantasy-esque/implausible, since they're based on real-world examples. But then again, they did already establish that several other people from earth was transported/reincarnated before him, so I guess it still works story-wise if they just chalk it up to those previous characters introducing them.

I like the power balance here. The main is strong but not so much that the others are irrelevant. The adults are still concerned they may have to step in.

I could see a lot of silly maneuvers being done with Moving Clay.

I don't quite get their point about the training being backwards though. Is it harder to create a spell than master one? If your goal is to temporarily soften something on a timer, then that would require less precise control over your magic, right?

@psychronia i think they just mean spell creation requires good understanding of fundamentals to get it to work to begin with. So being a beginner and making spells is unheard of / inefficient

I just like to imagine spell creation as something like "think of a new color no one has ever imagined yet"

It really depends on the system of magic that the world uses. There was one series whose name escapes me right now where it was brutally difficult to come up with new spells because the result was primarily chant and amount of mana input based. Minor variations in chant would cause considerably different effects... and, of course, it's up to the MC and his abject lack of talent in using standardized shortened chants to realize that screwed up chants have consistent results: Swap two lines, your fireball will explode after 20 feet instead of on impact, omit the last word, and it'll curve to the right, etc.

@ae0n You mean the parasites you often see wriggle out of a dead mantis? Because that would be horrifying at this size I guess? It already horrifies people at the normal scale.
