Well... this was a thing. I can't remember the last time a "happy romantic ending" made me feel... nothing.

I never saw Hime x Akira happening, as others said, it wouldn't have made sense with the plot. But Hime x Hamuro with zero romantic buildup after a timeskip? Eh... how am I supposed to feel happy for a couple that (in my eyes) had zero romantic chemistry? They felt like good friends, and maybe one-sided romantic interest from Hamuro's end. But Hime kinda gave zero indication in that direction. And we jump straight to them having a kid too? Just feels thrown together haphazardly.

Then there's Akira who gets no relationship of her own? Just feels weird/icky overall, hard for me not to get weird "she's the third wheel to the main pair and unable to separate from Hime" vibes. Which her finding her own love would have avoided. It just feels deliberate, even if it's placebo speaking.

What I really love is that Yukko got married after being sidelined through most of the story. Kind of a reverse Akira here. The marriage being out of left field with no buildup is just inevitable here, she just didn't get the screen time needed for that. So this relationship feels less fabricated than the main one.

Overall a great manga with a weirdly lackluster ending.
