Honestly it’s hard to blame the boyfriend if he gave up. Every signal from her showed him that she was pushing him away, and he gave her a lot of chances. Every indication was that he really did like her and has been faithful (as far as we can see).
That said, immediately swapping over to his coworker without formally breaking up is just a cowardly way to live. So is not speaking up when he was upset when he couldn’t come over.
Also, why couldn’t they just go to his place instead? Or somewhere else like a hotel? Why is it her place or nothing?
Good for our MC for giving her a hug. It’s kinda awkward, clearly out of his comfort zone, but he did it anyway because that’s what she needed most. He reached out as one human to another and it probably saved her from completely spiralling.
I don’t think he has any romantic interest in her, at least not yet, and respects that she’s in a relationship. I do think that he doe like her boyfriend, or maybe just his handsome “type”… maybe his ex cheated with a guy like that?

He's not switchign over to the co-worker, though it sounds like the coworker is down for that.
When asked to continue he turned them down.
Instead of waiting a few hours to see his girlfriend he decided to just give up and have dinner with a female colleague who is clearly interested in him, and at an expensive and romantic restaurant. This is a woman that others at work have already noticed that he’s clearly getting quite close with, to the extent that even he seems to acknowledge isn’t appropriate.
This is the choice he made on his girlfriend’s birthday. All that and you’re saying he hasn’t moved on?
I’m not saying that he’s wrong to think he’s being ghosted and pushed away by the FMC. Any guy would think she’s not prioritizing their relationship.

This is just this guy having pattern recognition. She ghosts him constantly to focus on her work. Its not the choice he made its the one SHE made.
I have no idea what's going on with him ignoring his phone. But we do know he's going to come over to her place and find her drunk with her neighbor hugging her.
I’m not laying blame, as both parties have fucked up and crossed some boundaries in my opinion. They are bad at communicating and this outcome is deserved.
