I'm assuming the idea right now is that they don't think they can get their hands on enough of the drug for all of them, so only one person can change and in that case becoming handsome would be pointless for the rest of the group.

You underestimate how much awkward and socially unfit 50+ japanese nerds can be i think, they would not manage any pull no matter what if they dont improve their self which they at that point probably dont intend.
