people complaining about skipped parts don't see how meta the story is.
it's told from satella's perspective.
what she doesn't see gray doing the story doesn't show.
if you want to know what happened you can read the main manga.
it tells gray's story up to the point where they leave the village on a carriage and get attacked by bandits.
pretty sure this manga will show it because satella's there.

Satella almost became NUTella, there.

It is utterly, gobsmackingly weird that the artist (or their parent society) would believe that the natural thing to do when in danger of rape and murder is to just accept it; a belief that the abnormal, difficult thing to do is to fight for your own life.

If that was true, humans would still live entirely upon the savanna! Still be the main food source for predators! And never would we have progressed towards making the very first stone weapons; much less built cities, towns, and villages.

I am aware of the facts that, after WWII, the Japanese embraced "peace;" im also aware that the Japanese People believe that dedication means to give your entire effort up to your death... but combining those two things in a fantasy world is fucking stupid; just utterly moronic. One is a temporary interregnum of human culture's natural tendencies, and the other is why said interregnum was forced upon them (see: Nanking, Rape of; also see: Korean Enslavement and Comfort Women).

But no person survives childhood with those two beliefs without a society that cannot cause harm,
and no species evolves toward even making tools with this attitude. And, as we've seen, this society contains both gobbos and shitty humans; harm is readily available.

It's something that has bothered me for years, and it still prevents me from having any kind of suspension of disbelief when reading... which means it's shitty writing.

When it comes to this kind of social idiocy, even AI slop is better than this unbelievable bag of dogshit.

I dislike the use of the term "blueprint" in settings like these. The "blueprint" refers to a type of contact print used to make copies of drafted plans (there's a science fiction story in which this is pointed out. I think it was A Canticle for Liebowitz). In any case, it is a process that would not have been invented in the society that is shown in this story. For one thing, they are not even using paper.

It would be quite difficult to build a water pump using forging techniques. The hollow tube is a complex shape with internal baffles built in to support a gasket and guide the piston. These kinds of things are made by casting in sand.
