To be fair, there are multiple styles that use spinning as a way to conserve momentum. But those styles are only with great swords such a the zweihander. But yes, spinning with a regular longsword is completely stupid.
You are correct in that fact. Just didn’t want to specify that since we didn’t get to see a cool sword like that in this chapter. So I assumed it was able to be interpreted as such.

Fun fact, "centrifugal force" is like the worst way to power a longsword cut. The point of balance is too close to the hilt to make a meaningful contribution. That's why one uses the kinetic chain and drives from the hips. Meaning that spin attacks are not only slower (because you spin lmao) but simply weaker.

Unless using a crowd-control weapon like the Montante/greatsword.

Fancy movements and wide swings are good against opponents much weaker. It was bull versus toreador fight.

To be fair though he's seen that MC is faster then him then proceeds to do a move that makes him incredibly vulnerable if slower so still a bad choice to do either way.
To be fair, he also made Beryl's footing unstable using the initial low sweep and then he proceeded to spin. I think it was a rational decision, it's just that Beryl has already read him

Fuck off with the spinning reee. There are ways and times where spinning can be used in combat. Spinning with your sword extended like a fucking beyblade is not one of them.

wtf are these people talking about like MMA does not exist (unarmed combat btw, add the reach of the blade at that), spinning attacks are quite effective.
Fun fact: Spinning is just as dumb in unarmed combat (particularly grappling rulesets, like MMA), which is why you'll never see, for example, TKD tornado kicks in a serious match, and for much the same reasons: It's a VERY bad idea to turn your back to your opponent when they're trying to hit you. The few times you'll see it is either in very close range "in the pocket" (where you don't spin so much as rotate around your opponent, like Muay Thai's reverse elbow) or after spending the whole match conditioning your opponent to defend something else (and then it's still a huge risk).
