from what i heard. the anime was portraying to much realistic swords play. the manga its more fantasy. and it is a fantasy manga with magic and monsters.

imagine a Olympic fencer fighting a dragon. he`ll get eaten alive.
but in fantasy, you have people stopping swords with abs.
Eh, another problem I had with the anime, at least from what I saw, is that they do my boy Heinblitz dirty. In the fight, Heinblitz is portrayed as mindlessly aggressive without much finesse, while in the manga he starts off with a feint. Also, in the manga he gains respect for Beryl immediately with the first touche, but in the anime he just gets angry and comes across as a typical meathead, though to the anime's credit he does wise up after the final victory of Beryl. That disappointed me :<

Ironically you are using that verison of Flash. Erza Miller. No wonder why Superman looks pissed at him. "You are a monster.".

i love how manga shows him to be very fatherly and yet... so badass.
if he did look at me like that when sparring.. i think i would need a set of new pants. it is damn scary.

There are bunch fo great character that as it turns out are manga original

"Real world swordplay?"

Manga have more reference on original swordplay than the anime.
The manga have church order that wield thrusting rapier, detial which somehow missing in the anime.

Ah, yes. I remember reading these kind of tropes? Strat?
Opponent went so fast they disappear from your vision. Huh. Wonder where they would come from? Well, where else? Of course from your blindspot.

So put your stance guard up on your blindspot, but your vision on the non-guarded part. This way, you can react more precisely whether they come within vision or outside.

Although, it's futile if your eyes can keep up but your defense/countermeasure is not ready.

I know nothing about sword fight, but I recognize Anakin uses a similar guard stance

It is a useful stance, from there is just a simple move for attacking, much more destructive with a lightsaber, but even a piece of sharpened metal with weight behind it cause a lot of damage if the attacker slips it into the guard of the adversary.

I genuinely don't care anywhere near as much about the rest of the story as I do about Beryl getting into swordfights, since the author actually bothers putting detail into them and doesn't just spam some fantasy ability bullcrap that you usually see in other shounens. It's kinda fun. I almost feel like a solo leveling fan

It isn't at all. Not with any type of real blade.
It is a good stance to die while looking "Cool"...

At best you go through that position while repositioning ( after you've fucked up already by letting someone get behind you....double so in a 1v1....).

The manga being significantly better than the anime or LN is precisely why these piecemeal chapters once a month are excruciating.

Despite just being a harem fantasy with a sus age gap, the mangaka adapting the story has given their all to improve it to the point that the duels are as intense as something like Vagabond.

I just wish it didn’t take like 3-6 months to cover what would be a single episode in an anime.

Inertia is for losers
I watched a few anime chapters and stop. Because just about every aspect of the manga is better than the anime for me. Better story telling (saw the different between how Beryl meet the head of magic corp. Manga did it WAY better), better arts, better framing, etc.
Its very odd how rare it is for anime to not completely fuck up the pacing
I get that things dont translate 1:1 but most of the time its functionally not even the same scene
Shield hero anime is so insanely shit its like watching a VN on autoplay
