Not that it got to the front page. Simply that it exists. Getting to the front page was just how people found out about it. It was already getting 1-star reviews before that.

In a 10-star review system being used correctly, almost no manga should ever get 1-star reviews. Even the most incomprehensible and trashiest trash is still at around a 2 or 3.

That's why in almost every single case, a 1-star review is someone reviewing out of pettiness, only intended to hurt the manga.

For normal manga (in the system as it ends up being used on Mangadex), around a 7 rating is the lower limit of it being decent. 8 or above is preferred. But if the manga has content that people get all pissy about, that lower limit drops to a 5.
