It was already hinted back in Ch. 5 when she was nearly spirited away by the Spectre that was posing as her Mom in the park.

Do you need psychic powers to see specters? The rules seem kind of loose; Chie-sensei saw the specter in the picture books, and both she and the random guy saw the specters in the train and train station.

But she couldn't see it in Kaya's mom or other general situations. Idk if it's been retconned because this was early in the chapters but there's supposed to be tons of spectres kind of just hanging around everywhere.

They played green light red light early on and only Kaya saw them though presumably Yuzu was there? And all the old people in the elderly care home could see their own specters of death but it seems improbable that they all could see specters their whole lives

This definitely felt like Kaya was a little more aware/thoughtful of how to use her powers and deal with things.... but that's part of a kid growing up, eh?
