So, It would be wonderful to be pleasantly surprised by the author in the end.She was never in love with her though. That was part of the issue. The friend realizes Meguru is the first time Kasane has really loved someone.
That was partially what last chapter was about, with her "testing" Kasane. Same with this flashback. Going from GF to Friend didn't bother Kasane even for a second. Before that Kasane was bubbly and nice but didn't truly connect romantically.
That's why Mimei broke up. She realized they didn't feel the same. They had another similar conversation in chapter 8.
