A group of predators that large would require quite a lot of prey animals in the area, but predators are always overabundant in fantasy.

What's unusual is that they gave up so easily. That makes far more sense than the persistent predators you always find in fiction. Most real animals don't want to spend too much energy or take too high risks to get their food, unless they're starving.

I mean...does the MC even need the magic cats? We've seen him single handedly wipe a whole city out of the map by simply compressing it inside a barrier...I highly doubt there exists an army that can trump that.
