There's actually one interesting thing about the story. While the MC is a slave, he was never treated harshly at all, aside from the jokes of training till he dies. This, in combination with his background as a pacifist Japanese, made him incredibly soft. You can see it in his every single decision and action ever since this military coup started. He's incapable of expecting the worst from other people, nor is he ready to attack humans. He's also plagued by indecision and hesitation. Those two are the most deadly traits to have in a dangerous situation.
The Basam house made this tragic flaw in Lynos's personality possible, despite his original role supposedly being a combat asset as a barrier master. They should have put him through some military training and then preferably have him deal with some bandits and whatnot, to really toughen him up. However, the family was too soft and now everybody's paying the price.
