There's actually one interesting thing about the story. While the MC is a slave, he was never treated harshly at all, aside from the jokes of training till he dies. This, in combination with his background as a pacifist Japanese, made him incredibly soft. You can see it in his every single decision and action ever since this military coup started. He's incapable of expecting the worst from other people, nor is he ready to attack humans. He's also plagued by indecision and hesitation. Those two are the most deadly traits to have in a dangerous situation.

The Basam house made this tragic flaw in Lynos's personality possible, despite his original role supposedly being a combat asset as a barrier master. They should have put him through some military training and then preferably have him deal with some bandits and whatnot, to really toughen him up. However, the family was too soft and now everybody's paying the price.

What was the point of reading a whole training arc if you're not going to use your barriers at all when faced with enemies lmao

Well.. I shouldn’t have expected anything from the start, I knew most japanese MCs are useless idiot, but still I’m expecting something good because he’s a “grown man”.

I can't understand how the girl was supposed to be as good as that said "sword master", but lost the first battle we actually see her fighting, against a normal soldier, even if she was enraged by the cut arms, it's impossible that she is this weak. So many bad plots, author must think the readers are retarded
