@dmr11 Given the inconsistencies that were commented on regarding Kabane's situation vs. that of a normal ghoul in the volume prior to this, it may still be up in the air whether Kabane is a "hybrid" like Shiki, i.e. with one kemono biological parent, or a human transformed into a ghoul via the ghoul flame (which is implied to be entirely different), or somehow both. Perhaps he does have a kemono parent and that parent was somehow impossibly a ghoul, and then that ghoul passed on all of their flame to Kabane but his mixed parentage allowed him to retain human form. Or maybe ghouls just have the regular lifespan of whatever they were before they were turned. Or maybe it's something else entirely, or the author just has trouble keeping their lore and terminology straight? Who knows?
