What I don't understand is why they're all so surprised that there are "demons" who are better at fighting? They've seen Sturm, they've encountered other demons who were stronger than the common rabble. So why the fuck are you not learning your fucking lesson and prepare?!

Wait until it clicked to for them to copy and used even stronger form attacks to their enemies.
Prince - Using gate to basically teleport attack the shit out of his opponent.
Valkrie - 'invisible' high pressure wind attacks
Trio Vs sniper - enchanted attacks? But they are not that good at that so dunno.
Shin opponent - RIP, nice attempt to use the grub to lure Shin tho sadly they are too stupid.

I know it's annoying that the main characters are brainless, but it's kinda ironic how people are expecting a good story from a generic isekai manga.

@SoMaKa at this point who doesn't support demon lmao, but their brain no different than UM.

Yeah this seem forced or author need to show how UM grow/get battle experience but their opponents tell how their power works🙄

GJ shin using large and long<?> magic on narrow area with 1/4 castle diameter and somehow no people get caught except nearby demons

Making critiques on the plot seems all covered. Mine is the bit on the "battle gear" they wear.
No supplemental armor? Magic materials that could carry more/better enchantments, none of those?
Fan service is fine every third chapter or so, but really? Panty shots every other female character.
They can shrug off demon beasts and kill devils but get embarrassed by the skin exposure sometimes?
Hardened teenage students that kill sentient, evil, beings but get flustered at undies exposure and don't get wardrobe changes.

Well authors/artists do what they want.

So anyone confused how the military assassin devils were just bearly beatable before they prepared for war and these hunter devil s are somehow a threat?

I have strong feeling these new villans are going to have a rough night.

Shin and party clearly didn't get the memo from the author about the genre shift. Sucks to be them.

@Kaarme
if Shin checked those retards first, Shin is just one man, and they are cautious if Storm on there, if Shin checked first by coming there alone and met with Storm, fighting again, and his underlings gonna join the fight, who gonna protect those retards if by any chance that they still alive....?
and don't forget... they are still bunch of STUDENTS, they lack experience of warfare... and under pressures that to save those retards quickly....
its great loss when those retards die, no matter how stupid and retard they are, they still people from the church, if Shin and the others didn't even bother to save them with full power, that basically makes them a bad guys on publics eyes, like seeing 'Ultimate Magician" didn't even care about their own men and let them die...

Bad writing? don't know, i read many story like this ~ if bad yet popular, maybe thats not so bad for other people ~
unreasonable? not really ~
since like i said on my previous comment, they are lack experience fighting strong enemy and warfare, and they become a little arrogant because they always win easily, this arc to slap them that they are not "mighty" as they used to know...
if suddenly become expert on Warfare and can fighting against pros immediately, win easily...
then thats what i call 'bad writing'... it become asspull developments...

@AMicrowave

Okay, you didn't understand me.

That fort? It's tissue paper.

Think of it this way: Does a god need a castle to defend themselves from other gods? Pile of bricks and mortar vs. someone who can blink away the entire countryside.

There are demons who can give Shin the sweats, and Shin can cast actual nuclear explosions... for fun. Fort = worthless.

@Nematoda They have the crown prince Aug with them. Ironically enough Shin complimented the dude in his thoughts for his decisive actions in this very chapter. Yeah, it was as decisive as it was stupid. Regardless, since he's going to be the next king, he would have been taught from a small kid the stuff necessary to rule the country. Seems like all military matters were pushed into the future in his personal curriculum.

If you haven't got the necessary knowledge to wage a war, then don't wage a war. Otherwise you'll just be another Isis idiot. If Shin had been a person from the West before getting isekaied, he would have at least seen a whole bunch of action and war movies, even TV series, during his previous life, even if he hadn't had military training (which might have been possible as well, depending on the country). But, alas, he was from Japan, one of the most pacifistic countries on Earth, so he brought nothing of the sort with him.

The retards were already dead. They deliberately broke the agreement and strategy everyone had agreed to follow. If anything, their deaths will serve as a very good lesson for all the others present. It has got nothing at all to do with the Ultimate Magicians. If someone had protested, Shin and Aug could have offered that someone the chance to face devils alone the next time, to see how it goes. The common troops are totally dependent on the Ultimate Magicians, so any unreasonable whining from the ranks can be ignored. Not that anyone would have said anything, I reckon. All the others would already look down on the idiots who went forward alone, possibly risking the whole plan. If some of them had actually survived, they would have just faced court-martial anyway. Considering the time period this series reflects, their chances of being executed would have been high.

You would think those ex-hunter devils would bail after finding out they were setup as bait by that old man

@Kaarme even in this chapter Aug acknowledged that this fight open his eyes, showing that he's become arrogant....
not all kings expert on warfare tho, thats why Minister of Defense is exist, to giving Kings a opinion and suggestion to the kings....
and from previous chapters, Aug is more to the politics rather than warfare...

the thing is, its not them who wage the war... but the higher ups, but they push everything on those kids, since they think "oh those kids already OP, so let them command an army"...
so its not their fault that they suck on it, since it was their first time 'on war' moreover commanding an army...
lol not everyone on earth is expert on military or warfare just by watching tv or movies...
i like watch race, then suddenly i become expert racer? no...
there's no indication that Shin like that kind of stuff... he probably watching movie, cartoon or anime not for "warfare stuff" but watching for the fun... like other peoples
and moreover if he's from Japan, he's more focusing on his live, his works, unless he's "otaku" military

when the soldiers make a mistakes, are the commander free from punishment? no...
the armies under them didn't put the blame on Ultimate magician, but the public will... there's always some provocators or people who didn't like them to stirr the trouble for them from this accident... (that if Author decides to makes the story become 'politics' war)

@Nematoda After watching a bunch of movies, you already know that people need to work as pairs, at the very least. There's like a million movies where a single person wandering off alone is the first one to get killed, for very obvious reasons. We aren't talking about anything complicated here, you know. You can exaggerate all you want with your expert racer comment, but you know I'm correct in this particular case. Why I singled out Japan in particular is because it's impossible not to notice that apart from some exceptions, like actual war/military related series (such as Gate), they have exceptionally poor understanding of firearms and war in the popular media.

As we have seen, there are countries that were suspicious of the Ultimate Magicians even before anything really happened. It can't be helped. As of now, 100% of the Ultimate Magicians belong to a single country, so all the other countries would be naturally exceedingly worried. Why do you think the Soviet Union, China, and others were in extreme hurry to develop nuclear weapons of their own after the USA demonstrated their power in the WW2? As long as Earlshide Kingdom is the only one possessing that power, everything anyone says is nothing but empty lip service. Even the Pope tried her best to have some control over Shin by declaring him a pivotal figure in the religion. In realpolitik, power is all that matters, in all of its forms.
