@mahtan: What you said, exactly. Her character archetype is so common in anime/manga, and they usually look almost exactly the same--and somehow there's always a horde of submissive masochists with bad taste lusting over them.
She's been single this long, and--barring interference from the author, I'm willing to wager that she'll stay that way. Her hair, before the short-hair demon got to her, was her last and only charm point; what she did with it afterward reflected what her personality became
perfectly. The damage was below the shoulder, but then she chose to cut it to a bland, above-shoulder length--the hairstyle of choice for those with diminished femininity (IRL, the old, the career-minded stronk wymyn). She was hardly feminine (especially compared to Cecily, and it seemed to get worse as the story continued) as it was, with the exception of her PMS: she eventually became characterized by her willingness to flip violently on just about anyone at the drop of a hat.
She really is like modern women in real life: Do everything you can to make yourself unattractive, get pissed and react in ways that make you even less attractive when you find out no one actually wants you, learn nothing. Well, with the exception of the aforementioned submissive males who want a stronk wymyn to step on them--and said wymyn would deeply detest them for it anyway. It'd be terrible (for Shin, especially) if a battle-ax like Maria ends up with Shin as well; the story would be FAR better off without the harem business, it doesn't need to be everywhere--Cecily alone is more than good enough, after all.
