It is trolling. You literally have no idea what you are talking about like most likely the entire rest of the guys that are trying to tell me what to do. How many can even read a single Kanji? How many of you have heard of stuff like sonkeigo or kenjougo? No one, because most other translators just drop it. Just to be clear: It is so much more easy to just drop all the nuances and localize the shit of the script. But then you guys are crying about such translation. Or about MTL.
I wrote in the TL note that they use different types of politeness level. AND it changes throughout the entire dialog. Using it one time in the opening is like dropping the entire nuances.
Does it sound a bit strange/kinky? Yes it does! Does it sound so in Japanese, too? Yes, kind of. This is not how everyday Japanese are talking nowadays. It a stylistic way in this context. Most importantly: Did I get the point across? Seeing all your reaction tells me yes.
Hepburn and I were literally discussing for hours how we would get the point across. Trying different words, grammar, sentence structures... The meme joke on the bottom of the tl note page was actually not a joke at all.
But I guess it is meaningless to try to explain this. You won´t listen anyway. I will continue to keep the nuances in future chapters. If you don´t like it well I guess you don´t have to read it.
Btw: Why did no one of you guys who know how to do it better, joined our discord to join the team and make an even better translation? Well I guess we know why
The only one not listening is you. If your goal was to avoid being called MTL, this makes it look more like MTL. I am sorry for this being harsh, but you getting this defensive over feedback forces a escalation from the responses.
Fact is people are commenting because the translation felt wrong and awkward. This is something you should care about, your claims of you spend hours debating doesn't mean you care about the readers, yet get mad at feedback. It tells the story that you care about how it was done personally and fought with your team over it.
Even your claim of the tone changes at multiple points, and that you are conveying that, is nonsense. You are claiming you used used one word to mean half a dozen different ways of talking. That makes no sense. If your claim was real you would use different words.
All this looks like is, you spent hours fighting your team till they let you do what you wanted as you do not care to hear what others say. Then in your arrogance came to the comment section expecting nothing but praise that you could rub in your teams face. Only for the readers to not like your way of doing it.
To be frank, delete your forum account, it won't be the echo chamber you demand it be. Your are not mentally mature enough to handle feedback and hold conversations with readers. Your not really even suitable for any public based job where you will get talked about and face criticism.

Everything you said is true. It was even harsher. I was actually threatening the other team members. Everything for the humble! I was going to force them to watch Boku no Pico 24/7 :smugnako:

As you don´t seem to like my Tls, it is good to know that I won´t meet you for the next chapters again:chad:

Nice Fanfic btw:finnawoke: Making such a scene about a stupid word :aquadrink:

The reason translators drop it is because it makes no sense in english. With it you get the word humble every other sentence which looks like nonsense to any native english speaker and without it the conversation looks completely normal if you wanted to keep some kind of respect shown to the character english does use titles like sir or maam/madam but those also make no sense combined with japanese honorifics so the politeness could just be sama and it wouldnt look weird at all and still keep a level of respect/politeness. Several people gave you examples of ways you could do it instead and you chose to ignore them.
Writing them off as trolls is not ok. Most of them are not trolling. As for the solution, its simply using the word less. Remember that each speech bubble doesn't need the word, its a ongoing conversation, having it once in the first sets the tone for those that follow and carries over said tone to the following speech bubbles, the tone doesn't just reset each one.
Its 100% trolling on my part. Though seeing people give actual advice on how to make it less awkward and have that be ignored and called trolling is crazy.

Whats also crazy, he clearly doesn't understand what being humble even is. I mean the arrogance in the "how many can read kanji" , "you don't know what your talking about" and my personal favorite "so you just drop it". The sheer derision towards some he had just asked for help from because they didn't say what he wanted. Its been some time since I saw this level of narcissism.
Also that comment of "it is good to know that I won´t meet you for the next chapters again". Like really he thinks he is what we are all here for. We are here for the manga, not the delivery boy. And with his mindset, he will crash out and drop this soon. Or his team will disband as he lashes out at them. Ether way, I will treat this as a short term MTL that has to be put up with till a real translator picks up where he leaves off.
