TBF we don't know yet if there's a limit or conditions in order to use the lazor. Though in vol4 it revealed that within the same grade there's also different tier and Violet are below the fish in that regard. So maybe she doesn't bother using it because she already know it's useless against the fish or something.

edit: so i just reread the whole 4 volume again (because why not) and actually there's an explanation for why Violet doesn't use her lazor on the next chapter lol
